“King’s Cake” - or "Galette des Rois," is a traditional French pastry enjoyed during the celebration of Epiphany on January 6th. It is made with puff pastry filled with almond cream and often contains a hidden charm, called a fève, with the person who finds it being crowned king or queen for the day. The féve in the can is a Guinness-style widget.,.,, so king me right!

Good morning BAs! A quick short walk around the neighborhood, then hot chocolate (w/bourbon), now a Big Timber Porter (pic on the side porch):



My go to to beer in WV. Outside it’s 21° and blowing snow; the feels like is 10°. We discussed going to the indoor mall uptown to get in some steps, but the roads are icy, so…I voted to stay home, drink and make bourbon balls. Cheers from the Kanawha Valley, WV y’all!

Best example of this I've had in years - nearly as good as the (memory enhanced) original from the blue bottle days - markedly juicy and sprucey! There were several years where it was a mere ghost of the beer I rated at 4.74. I would probably downgrade it to a 4.5 if I were to rate it today.

A few years ago I tried to make my own following a recipe attributed to Ben Franklin - used blue spruce tips from my front yard - utter disaster! Prosit!

Shooting practice complete and a small beer run done. Jai Alai on an empty grill. Going to grill 3 small steaks in the 46 degree air in a bit.

 

Lunch at Cherry Street in Alpharetta. MönchStrasse Kellerbier 4.5%. Used Hallertau and Centennial hops in this. Makes for a nice Old World/New World lager. Barely get some citrus fruit and soft pine notes.

 

Happy last Tuesday of 2025 BAs.....another cold and windy AF day here today - did not get my morning hike in - perhaps later I will, and get Miss Emma out for a short one as well...

This is a tasty new one - will be packing up some beers in the fridge and out in my sunroom to take to the cellar over the next few days - dry January starting very soon!
