I haven't seen it mentioned on here yet, but Charlton is selling pizza by the slice. Taken from their website: Slice Shop - Tree House Pizza by the slice with House-made dipping sauces is available Monday through Thursday during open hours. The Slice Shop is a grab-and-go offering to accompany our food truck partners. Whole pies are not available in Charlton.
Little fire oak should be called big fire oak. Not for the faint of heart smoke wise. haze against the machine 12/29 is very good. Gggreen 12/23 is also good. Didn’t care much for Daze 12/15 or the recent bomb cyclone
Omg, Why do I have all these holiday IPAs on Jan 5…. It’s tough out here that’s why. Seriously still so good, Shnnnapppyys, and Holiday Fucking Green Bangers all (excuse the language, that’s what the can says) Hey, this thread is great and I keep up with it. @Jbrews , come on over to our beach rental this summer, I’ll have a fresh haul from Charlton for sure. Cheers!
Agree on Bomb Cyclone. Feels like it needs a month or two in the can to see where it’s at. Usually I don’t subscribe to that, but this one seems overly green/yeasty
I went to Charlton on New Year's Day. Picked up a bunch of things, including Old Growth and Plover, both of which are great. I recommend folks check them out.
Am I crazy or does Plover have a metric fuckton of diacetyl? Maybe it was just my cans? I know it's acceptable for that style so I'm not calling it a flaw but it honestly felt like I was drinking straight melted butter.
I was just checking the menu for a possible pickup today. I know they lean hard into the low ABV beers for January, but this year they seem to be balancing that heavily with triples and quads. What if my damp January is just drinking singles?!
Definitely present in the cans I had, but not out of bounds for the style. That’s what I thought, at least. I don’t think it’s terribly good beer. I’ve had better versions from much less celebrated breweries.
Funny, I didn't pick up on diacetyl when I drank mine. I have a few cans left, I will see if I can pick it up next time & report back. I should be able to pick up on diacetyl, I have had a few english pale ales in the past where I noted a buttery flavor.
I’ve never liked the fact the BJCP says it’s acceptable for the style. In Prague the locals have become accustomed to it, so no one complains. The tankovna style beers are all riddled with it in Prague. Regular draft Czech beers won’t have it there. And the unpasteurized/unfiltered Pilsner Urquell straight from the barrels in the beer caves on the Pilsner Urquell tour, and the pub next to the brewery, don’t have perceptible diacetyl. I’ve never heard anyone detect it in beers like The Standard and Alexander from Notch and Schilling. It’s one thing if you enjoy subtle diacetyl in your beer, but otherwise, to me, it’s a flaw. Not saying Tree House can’t make very good lagers, they absolutely can. But this may have just been an off batch.
Tree House describes Plover as a British Golden Ale. I checked the BJCP guidelines (2021) that stated "Low diacetyl optional" for this particular style. Actually, I was surprise that a good number of British styles had that same comment. I was also surprised to see a similar comment for the Czech Lager styles.
