You don't find a Bock Beer on every street corner, so I am always happy when I run across one. And thanks to everyone who has shared their bock discoveries in 2025. So I say good bye to Christmas with a Mexican Style Winter Bock and happy beer hunting in the New Year! To All A Good Night from Brewery X in some corner south of LA. I would venture this has some cocoa and even a touch of chiles, given the Mexican-style description. All very mild and makes for a delicious dark beer in the Winter Warmer area. It's certainly in another dimension than Noche Buena. Flavors of dark roasted grain, and a hint of burnt sugar, but not at all sweet, just a malty warmth. Whatever this is, it's a highly drinkable dark brew and one of the better efforts from Brewery X. Dated 10/31/25.
I discussed a Doppelbock in this weekend's NBW thread: A winter time treat! I met some buddies for lunch at a local craft beer bar/restaurant (Capone’s in Norristown, PA) and to my great joy they had a Ramstein (High Point Brewing) beer on tap: Ramstein Winter Wheat Doppelbock. How this beer was detailed on the Beer Menu: “Doppelbock with a bouquet of wheat malt, caramel and chocolate malt. 8.8%” I am a fan of Ramstein beers and I have only ever seen it available at Capone’s. My guess is that Matt Capone is well connected such that he can obtain their beers. Served in a fancy glass: Appearance: Pours a mahogany brown color with a khaki colored head. Aroma: A variety of aromas: dried dark fruit, dark bread crust, dark chocolate, caramel, toffee,… Taste: The flavor follows the nose with aspects as detailed above; a pleasing balance of those flavors. There is low-medium bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. There is a moderate carbonation level with an off-dry finish. Overall: This beer is very good – excellent. I appreciated the balance of flavors and even with its robust ABV level it is quite drinkable. Cheers!
I picked up a four-pack of Riggs Maibock while passing through Illinois a while back. I'm saving it for this spring. Then I'm going to poke it with a red-hot iron. Stay tuned.
You should come up for the Sly Fox goat race/bock fest. They serve a bunch of different bock beers and they name their Maibock after the name of the goat that wins the races (many heats). In the past they served the Maibock for free from a cask immediately after the final race heat. Cheers!
Riggs Beer Company ~ Winterbock Urbana, IL ~ 7.3% ABV This Winterbock makes for real fine opener and fits the bill nicely with some high quality marks here BA. I'd say it leans a touch sweeter than others with the local honey additions however the flavors mingle so nicely into that warm toasted biscuit malt nuttiness and smooth lager finish. You can really taste the locally sourced ingredients here. Riggs has a real nice Holiday winner with this Bock, zero complaints. Great balance overall and masterly crafted. Sorry! I had my Christmas Bock open and didn't see a thread for it. I am sending you 687 tokens to buy a virtual Zuper-Duper Weizen Bock !
I went to Northbound in Minneapolis earlier today. I had a Eisbock and Doppelbock. Both were good but I think this batch of the Doppel is not as good as in the past. Normally I like the doppel better than the Eis, but not this year. @Mdog https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29923/778609/
I'm drinking a 12oz bottle of Dark Doppelbock from Capital in Madison/Middleton WI. 7.8% code 3075SP Not bad, taste of caramel, toasted bread/grain maybe a hint of dark fruit. No off flavors yet. 3.89/5 today. Many years ago I lived In Middleton for a year.
I was there about 11:15-11:30 yesterday. I only had the Eisbock while there (posted in NBW) but got a crowler of the doppelbock for a review which I probably won't get to until next weekend.
Dovetail Brewing's Holiday Bock BA 6.9%ABV My very first Dovetail beer courtesy of @falloutsnow I really wanted to love this Holiday Bock given this brewery's prowess however there is an odd sour honey malt type note to it that I am just not so sure what to make of. Not anything near the class or crisp cleanliness of Enegrens Christmas Bock that I am most accustomed with... That said it is still a nice drink that I am thankful for the opportunity to have been able to sample for sure. Cheers
