And now for something completely different.

Stumbled last summer into this 2021 blend of fermented Syrah grapes with Farmhouse ales. I miss Birds Fly South out of Greenville, SC as their Saisons and Farmhouse Ales were top-notch. This was a spendy nostalgic purchase.

It strikes my palate as more of an unadulterated Syrah wine but with a funky twist. In collaboration with Minnesota's BlackStack Brewing. A good, interesting experiment.

I gave my wife a sip and this was her reaction.

The Mayan calendar is a complex system of interlocking cycles, primarily featuring the Tzolkʼin (260-day sacred calendar for rituals), the Haabʼ (365-day solar calendar for agriculture), and the Long Count (for historical recording). These combine in the Calendar Round, a 52-year cycle, which , well, it’s hard to know when it’s your birthday.


Today is my Birthday and I know this because my Tzolk Venns on the left upper Haab of @beergoot , and when he has a birthday my birthday follows 2 days later, except every 260 years when the sacred rituals resume their complex system of interlocking cycles!

1) Drekker Doomsday Device (8.3% canned 3/26/24): A NEIPA from North Dakota with Mosaic for flavors of dank orange, tropical berries, blueberries, mango juice.

2) Toppling Goliath Mosaic Mamba (8.5% 9/30/25): A NEIPA from Iowa with Mosaic and Galaxy for flavors of orange, melon, and mango. Smooth. (Correctly matched the two blind)

Drekker versus Toppling Goliath Battle, all with Mosaic. Repeating this battle, during my IPA drought. First is Drekker Doomsday Device. Nice berries and melon. Tropical and juicy. Sort of more disappointing in terms of flavors than I remember.
Next is Toppling Goliath Mosaic Mamba with Galaxy as well. Nice floral and berries flower. Drinking excellent at 3 months. Much more flavor here and floral notes I think.
