In the 1-Millionth Beer thread (https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/1-millionth-beer.682355/) the discussion involved what effort it would take to reach 1-million beers in the BA database. I estimated that at the estimated current pace that it would take 8.3 years, or around April of 2033.. Todd provided accurate current submission numbers that would suggest that the goal will be reached earlier than that. Certainly we can't reach that number this year, but we can try to get everyone in the habit of adding beers and possibly set a record for a day while we're at it. However, based on the total number of BA members, anything is possible.
I proposed that we as a group make a concerted effort to designate a day to have everyone add a beer (or more) to get things moving. There were some Likes to my post that I'm going to interpret is an indication of support to that idea. So let's try it.

Since the timing isn't great to do it right away with Dry January being practiced by many members, how about we shoot for February? And instead of one day let's do a weekend to give everyone a bit more flexibility on being available to have the time to do this on one of the days. A February date also gives everyone time to look back thru their notes to see which beers were consumed and check to see whether it's already listed here. If it isn't listed, take the time to gather the data needed and compile your list.

(If you've never added a beer, all it takes is the beer's name [check the name against the 'All' tab for the brewery's beer list so we don't get duplicates] and the style. The abv [optional] can also be added if it's known, and descriptive Notes [optional] can also be added at this time for a nice extra touch [not a review, just typically the brewery's brief notes about the beer]. The beer will show up in the last right away so that you can then refresh the screen and proceed to rate/review it if you choose.)

If you have the can/bottle, or need to get it out of the recycling bin (or return for deposit bin), snap a pic for adding to the page too. This can be done after the beer is listed (and it's a bit of extra work because of the 150x300 bytes dimension requirement), but you have to go through the Update menu on the beer's page to get it done.

Other than a beer that you're currently drinking, this will take a bit of planning and searching if we want to reach a big number. (Todd says that in 2025 there were 45,846 new beers added, or 125 per day. Over a two day weekend, we should easily reach 300 but why not shoot for something bigger like 1,000? (Or more?) And who wants to be recognized as our champion, assuming that Todd can identify the largest contributing member?

The first full weekend in February is the 7th and 8th. Can we shoot for that?

I invite discussion, suggestions, questions. What did I miss or get wrong?

I've added 50-ish (26 from 1 brewery) since that thread started. Having a big push is certainly a help, what we need more is steady consistency. Catch 'em as we can.

I'm down for this. What I'd probably do is pick out a local brewery that's not national/regional and go sit down, add the menu items not already in the DB (and taste it). That's even more fun.

Yeah, I remember your post(s) from the other thread with that info. If Todd is able to identify BA members who contributed big numbers I have hopes of listing you heavy hitters in a summary post after that weekend. Otherwise I'll trust whatever big numbers that everyone chooses to post after their entries.

Our PNW Forum members, especially those in PDX and SEA could really bump the numbers up. They are, in military terms, 'target rich environments'.

I remember you mentioning this @PapaGoose03 . I am always checking beer menus to add beers. As I am on a "modified" work week, I will make a few excursions. :beers::heavymetal:

OK! Now HERE'S an idea I can get behind, New "Add-A-Beer-Weekend"!

    1. Already added at least a half-dozen or more since the other thread discussion took off.
    2. I'll make a concerted effort to add a beer-a-day when I'm on here but be aware that a LOT of the brews I'll add are older, out-of-production beers from yore from all of the regional breweries in my area. I'll always try & provide my tasting notes & especially my 'Dumcrapped' check-in month/year when I add-a-beer to alert folks they're older brews.
    3. Some other BA person made a comment about people on here yucking it up but never rating any beers so.......get ready folks, here it comes......
    4. Remember.....you asked for it......

I was hoping some of my acquisitions over the holidays would lead to a surge of new additions but I then remembered I vetted my purchases based on BA reviews.

All we can ask is for you to do your best. If some of your beers are old, at least you're creating history for that brewery, and somebody might be interested in knowing that.

I'd say that this is out of bounds. There's not much point to adding beers that we know are no longer made (that would open the door to adding entire lists from closed breweries), but, if the Overlords are OK with it, go ahead.

Well that's just poor planning (or reading my mind a month ago). Go buy some more beers, but look to see that they're not listed here.

PRO TIP: to add a beer, it's easier if you start at the brewery's page than to go thru the main menu.

History of a brewery's beers can have its place, and it's always possible that a beer would be brewed again. I'd say if a brewery has a history of releasing a couple new beers per week and has a ton of beers in its list here on BA, then we likely need to be realistic.... they're likely not going to brew any repeats. But smaller local or regional breweries may have a different approach to beers being released.

Once I'm out of good beer hunting land I'll have plenty to add. All the local breweries have been pumping out releases and I've gotta start auditioning a new hangout spot.

I added a bunch in response to the original thread - realized I had been slacking. So I picked some small local-ish breweries, googled up their beef lists and added away.

I'm down for this and will do some more - hopefully dont run out of material before the "official" date.

There's nothing wrong with doing some continuing 'research' and create a list of data for the official weekend. Just explore a bit and choose lesser known beers. Exploration can be a fun part of this project.

I'll try to limit myself on adding old beers (again, unless my review is from the last 6-7 months or so I'll always include the month/year I had it in my BA review) and will try to use the breweries lists of active, new, inactive & retired to ensure I'm not adding a previously existing beer but some of my regional breweries do a batch of something & then bring it back months or a year later so unless the directive is NOT to add brews from yore that might be inactive, away we go.

And I'm NOT going to add a beer I've never had. THAT wouldn't be fair, I'd think.

Any way to add the fact that a brew might be 'retired' or 'inactive' to the creation of the listing?

And then, what if the brewery brings it out of retirement?

    Just askin'.

Getting a jump on things with some procrasdistraction over here. I've gone and added beers from Brewery Outre and Bells (in Kalamazoo), New Holland, HOMES, Ghost Town, and Alvarado. I noticed my Beers Added count has remained unchanged. I assume it's a matter of approving or refreshing, and not a glitch or error in updating/adding beers.
