'Add a Beer' Weekend

As the one who is the geek who started the 1 Millionth Beer thread, I like the idea. However, I don't know if I am able to participate. This part of the year I referee club volleyball, which means I am working all weekend, and this weekend specifically I am going to a camp to try to advance in my ranking, so I may not be participating, but I am glad the community is embracing my geekery to get our database up there.

 

Yet another reason to add them when you can. Ya get an extra 10-15 minutes? Jump on a local breweries website and add a few.

 

I think adding a beer you haven't tried is perfectly OK. In fact, it's ideal. The whole idea I go with is that I add a beer for the commuity here whether I tried it or not. There are many times where I am at a brewery, try a couple of beers but add others I never tried. It's for the greater good.

While I respect your reasoning for not adding beers unless you have tried them, I feel exactly the opposite. It’s valuable to add the beers whether or not we have consumed or reviewed them ourselves.

1. As a historical record of what exists/existed.
2. To make it easier for others to rate/review (especially if they are uncomfortable adding a beer for some reason).
3. To improve the data set of a brewer’s range.
4. To improve the data set of available styles.

I am sure there are other good reasons to add beers.

If, however, there is some determination by consensus of members, Mods, or @Todd then I will only add beers I have personally tried. This would eliminate me for participating in the planned weekend, as I always add a missing beer once I have tried it.

EDIT *** And as far as the Rate/Review controversy goes, both have their place and value. I have no objection to either approach. ***

 

And the best way to add new beers is to go to a small local brewery that needs your support in dry January! It’s a win-win, advocates!

 

Also if people are participating in Dry January and having NA beers, add them too. They deserve love too.

So, after the overnight update, it shows that I helped clear your path to the summit by removing 60 pebbles from the mountain yesterday. That should give you a place to plant some explosives to blast more rock.

@PapaGoose03 I was gonna add one but it was a west coast pilsner, nowhere to add.

Just kidding into IPL it went normally I only add beers if I have or will have but I’ll play along.

 

Which brings up something I've noticed since I've been adding beers the last few days; there is no Mexican Lager category, despite their current popularity. I've just been putting them under American Lager, imperialist that I am.

 

I wonder if we should start a thread where you can describe and talk up the beer you just added.
