Today's New Breakfast Beer:



Blackout Stout Barrel Aged Mocha from Great Lakes Brewing. 16 fl oz can from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Picked up 10/01/26, in reefer at distributor. $ 6.75 (including tax) ($ 0.422/fl oz). Reviewed 13/01/26, review 3670.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Uncredited label art. Overall, a nice iteration of Blackout Stout. Any hints at barrel-aging seem to lean toward whiskey rather than bourbon.

Today, for the first time, I got to try Kona Big Wave. About to have their lager too…
What did some of you older BAs think of this back in the day? I wasn’t expecting the citrusy hops.

The reviews here seem just as confused as me. Not sure if this is a perfectly balanced session pale, or just watery crap. Maybe I just had different expectations? It’d be a good hot-weather beer for sure.

 

Day off today, might as well start it off right.

Another "new'ish" NA IPA, this one from Rhinegeist in Cincy....brewed in Canada? Hmm, I wonder who is making this for them?

Nice to see those across the pond. I would agree that Kona BW is kind of a session ale. Really EZ to drink, refreshing and a bit hop frwd. I see it on tap at a lot of pubs and restaurants here. It's been popular for a number of yrs now. I don't enjoy it often enough to know if it's changed over the years. It sells well.

 

Going light now.

 

Hit downtown and back, eating a sub for the first time in likely a few years with this beer. Like most beers this one held up well refrigerated.

There's a food court in the housing complex near me

It's run by the same company that has one in Wilmington. I'm tearing into a real cheesesteak washed down by a Steel Hands Brewing PECAN BROWN ALE. Steel Hands is a local brewery located next to a steel plant. I like this beer and their coffee lager.

My driveway & patio are 95% clear. It is January after all so I can't expect too deep of a thaw but the melting is nice. 2 days well over 40F.

Picked up this brew last night. Junkyard Sail NZ Pilsner Very tasty and clean compared to Luce Line Distant Future NZ Pils.

Cracked into the 2nd beer from the UA's mix 12 pk I received Monday - this one is excellent - likely one of the best NA pils on the market....great stuff!



love seeing tundra and mute swans on the lake here - some years I have seen like 10 -12 of them at a time!

Today, it's grey, but otherwise okay, for a January day, out here in McGregor--and both cats Gracie and Sundae couldn't wait to help me investigate the day's new beers: First, with Gracie, it's my tenth brew from Toronto, Ontario's Avling Brewery--their 5.3% German Wheat Hefeweizen (which I'd rate 4/5, or 80%, on both Untappd and BeerAdvocate, under my name talisen-crw)...
