I know some eyes are gonna roll, but it wasn't that hard getting one. Yes, it posted a few minutes late and you had to refresh a bunch and wait, and no, it didn't have peanut butter. Once it was up, it was smooth sailing for me. This was nothing compared to the insta sellouts of the not too distant past. I had time to manually change from shipping to pick up, buy it, go back to the shop and see it still available. Again, an eternity compared to the past. That change to pick up alone would've been my funeral in the before times. Anywho, I live almost 3 hours away, have kids, and the weather is not for the faint of heart right now. Probably lots just like me and no way they're traveling in this shit blizzard for a beer run. If I had that bad boy in hand, I'd probably solo it tonight or tomorrow since I'm gonna be stuck around the house.
I mean from my POV, your experience is exactly the issue with the Shop platform. For some folks, the product showed up at 10:02am and it was a leisurely stroll to the finish line. But for many of us, it was already sold out by the time the product ever even showed up. It wasn’t even consistent across different devices, for me. It finally appeared about 10:05 on my laptop that was on WiFi (already sold out), another minute or two after that on the laptop that was hardwired to Ethernet, and not until I think 10:09am or later on phone browser. Lots of folks in the Facebook group describing similar experiences — either the product showed up (roughly) on time and it was easy peasy — or it didn’t, and you never had a chance. Idk I guess it’s just something goofy in the way that Shop.app handles high volume web traffic. I don’t doubt that the demand volume was way higher a few years back given the more recent decline of rabid beer-chasing. And obviously my snarky joke about 12 people getting it was wild hyperbole
so to condense my beer-autism down into a TL;DR: I’d be less salty losing out on a drop because I fumbled the Ship -> Pick-Up toggle in my cart — vs. just because Shop.app decided it wasn’t gonna be a level playing field c’est la vie with the beer gods, though!
Anyone remember DBA b1 online fiasco? I sat at work with the spinning wheel of death refusing to let go until the email came through that it was a total piss-off and we were to do it all over again a day or two later.
And how is the determination made between bottling in 750 vs 375? Because DBA seems like a clear candidate for a 375. Not to mention, they could probably jack up the price even more than they already do for the smaller format. Not condoning that action, just saying… this one kind of seems like a no-brainer for the smaller bottling format.
And I was on my phone on cell network. And not a very good connection either. Weird how this stuff shakes out.
Mine was weird too. On the East Coast where I live it finally popped up at 11:02. Had my cart ready and bought it immediately. The Shop site showed me a "processing" message and it kept spinning in circles. Thinking that it had messed up, I was on my phone at 11:04 and bought it quickly and smoothly. I checked my email at 11:05 and saw two purchases confirmed. I alerted SP to the problem and that I didn't intend to buy two packages, although i'd have gladly taken the results if there was no limits. They refunded the 2nd purchase.
Can anyone even get to the brewery to do their pickups? I thought STL got a lot of snow and ice like we did her in VA.
I thought SP posted they were closed yesterday due to the weather too. Looks like STL got a lot more snow than the KC area. This link is showing around 8in over a two day period.
Does that mean we all get one or that they'll laugh at us as the feeding frenzy commences and some get shut out of buying at 10:05am?
