Mineshaft Money Barrel might be the greatest draft-only variant in Deep Wood History. Refined & elegant to an almost absurd degree; the cognac is clear & present like the danger in that Harrison Ford movie, with equal doses of wood & caramel, plus a hint of chocolate on the finish. Once warm, pleasing booze heat slowly reveals itself. 10/10, no notes, and I'll be returning for more.
I always love the variance of opinions on here! Mostly because the GF and I both thought the standouts were Malorted by the Empire and Dethurana. La Cerise was a close third.
Just had the latest X Hero Tropical Surge. I think it's another rare miss from the Rev. Just like the original X Hero, this is another 10% bruiser that hits you in the dome with the subtlety of a semi. It's astringent and tastes artificial. But I get why they're doing it....Sadly in this segment (not that I play in it often), I'd actually opt for a Beer Hug or a Voodoo Ranger over the X Heroes. What does everyone else think of the X Heroes? It seems that my ratings on them are below average. So could be just me.
Oh hell yes, I’m all over this. High hopes. Bottle Logic has had a peach barleywine, Flesh to Stone, which is an all time favorite
Slightly skeptical of this one only because I've never heard of an actual peach brandy that is reputable (ie this isn't coming from French cognac barrels). The likes of E&J, Dekuyper, and Paul Masson make peach flavored brandy and Im pretty sure it's all artificial flavoring nonsense. So would love to know more about the source of the barrel and whether a legit brandy actually rested in it.
Not sure what hops they use, but their modern takes and hazes like for most breweries aren't in my wheelhouse. I'm also very hesitant from trying new IPAs these days beyond perhaps a draft or single pour with all of these new hops and use of Cryo which really doesn't work well for me (I sometimes get a chemical or artificial taste). I wish Rev and 3 Floyds (and everyone) would list their hops and malts, though I still enjoy most of their beers. I've gravitated toward more new to me Off Color beers for my weekend tastings due in part to their listing ingredients, and have been very pleased with the results.
I think there are quality brands made with real peaches and it generally sound like many of the others blend brandy with peach liquor that used real peaches
koval distillery in chicago does a barrel aged peach brandy.. not a common thing so could be your winner
Peach brandy sounds pretty interesting. Side note, I think they really nailed Dethurana. I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit more than I expected since I rarely like the amburana stuff.
I'm usually Rev's biggest cheerleader, but I thought that one tasted like peach schnapps. Probably my least favorite Deep Wood beer ever. I'm keeping my expectations low for this one!
