I was fortunate to spend a little bit of time with Dave face-to-face. I found him to be a kind man in those interactions.

Sad to hear we've lost Dave. I'll miss his thoughtful postings on the various forums. What has always made BA a great community is the people sharing a common passion for great beer. And Dave was one of the longtime stalwarts that made that mantra true.

Cheers Dave, and thank you for all the contributions here.

So, special WBAYDN on Saturday night? Cave Dave Stout Only Edition?

I'll break my sobriety to have a few beers with you all in memory of him.

    RIP

Knew Dave mentioned he had some health problems. Really saddened by this news though. He was one of those posters you knew would come in and be extremely level headed, even on a highly debated topic. And no offense to others on here, including myself, but that's rare.

    RIP Dave.

Wow. Crushing news. For years we chatted. Even got to talk on the phone but never in person. He was such a creative, generous, at times gruff, passionate person.

Loved what he shared beyond beer:music, mushroom hunting, local recycling, etc.

I was also grateful that he stayed connected with us when he had to focus on health and step away from beer. And when he came back to imbibing a tad, his heightened senses were a joy to read about.

To Dave. :beers: May your glass be forever full and may the four winds blow you safely home.

Anyone remember what his favorite beers were? I cannot access his profile, but would like to try to find a few for his tribute, if we do it.

    Rest easy brother.

Appreciated your passion & knowledge. Lurking here won't be quite the same without you around.

I'll be toasting your spirit next time I break into my cellar.

When Equilibrium Brewing first opened in Middletown, NY - before it started mass distributing - it would release new beers on Saturday at Noon at the brewery. I attended a few releases in those early years. We would arrive around 8:30 a.m. and receive a ticket. Then, for the next few hours (til we started lining up to get our cans), there would be an amazing bottle share. I had my first beers from Treehouse and Monkish during those shares. One Saturday, I ran into Dave there. He had a bomber-size bottle in his hand when we greeted each other (we had met before at Rushing Duck). I forget what I was drinking at the time but Dave snatched the cup from my hand, dumped it, and said emphatically (and I'll never forget this), "pour that shit out!" He proceeded to fill my cup generously from his bottle and it was an amazing spontaneously fermented Wild Ale - one of the best I ever drank. That's the kind of guy he was. We're probably about as different as two people could be - he a proud hippy who foraged mushrooms for a living, and me a stuffy real estate lawyer. But we bonded over our mutual love of good beer and conversation (and boy could he tell stories!). There will never be another @cavedave, or anything close. My condolences to Adam and Dave's family and many friends!

    Certainly.
I suspect you'd get an earful for using that verbiage!

I'm going to miss his Haiku's on FB.

Over the many years I have had the pleasure to interact with Dave many times electronically via PM (we called it BeerMail back in the day). He was also very generous with his time and sharing beer knowledge. But Dave was much more than beer, a sort of Renaissance man if you will. He was passionate about mushrooms and a bunch of other interests.

I appreciated that when it was called New Beer Sunday both he and Maria did a very good job kickstarting that weekly thread and on more than one occassion he would contact me to be a guest person to start the weekly NBS thread.

I also appreciated that when health issues dictated that he severely cut back on drinking beer he did not decide to stop being a part of the BA community but would still participate in sharing his wisdom and wit.

I will miss Dave and this evening I will be drinking a homebrewed Altbier (Sticke version) as a tribute and in remembrance of Dave. I will indeed miss him.:slight_frown:

    Cheers to Dave!

Spealing of utopiajane, it has been some time since I have heard from her, as I was in touch quite frequently on her personal FB page.

I currently do not have any stouts in house, yes I know the horror and shame! But I plan to get something soon!

So let us raise as many glasses as we can to honor him!
