I also knew Maria outside of BeerAdvocate through her Facebook page, though it’s been quite some time since we last communicated. She and Dave always struck me as generous, thoughtful people, and your words really captured that spirit. And that homebrewed Altbier Sticke as a tribute is a wonderful touch. A fitting way to honor him. Cheers to Dave!
Wow. Like others, I never met Dave in real life but I enjoyed his contributions here a great deal. It speaks volumes that so man felt as if they knew him only by interacting with him on this site. By the looks of the pictures, he was a pretty young dude. My deepest sympathies to those close to him. Rest in peace, Dave. I'll miss you on these boards.

I've not had any correspondence with him but seeing his posts, he seemed like someone I'd gladly have spent an evening drinking with. Very passionate but level-headed and kind to others as well as himself. I've got a few stouts left that I was saving for a very special occasion after fight camp, but if it's for a good cause I think that's for a good enough reason.
A true BA legend. His reviews were elegant, and I always enjoyed his cellar reviews over the past few years (although he wasn't drinking much). I was lucky to interact many times over the years, but unfortunately never in person. Great guy and very insightful. Was kind to everyone. RIP.

Man, sorry to hear the news… Never met but, cavedave was one of the first avatars I came to know when I first joined. Time flies soooo fast and that was one beautiful poem that he constructed….RIP. Seemed like a gentle soul and a great Beer Advocate. Rock on Dave
Sad news. I came to know him (electronically) many years ago, when he and Maria hosted New Beer Sunday, and found him to be knowledgeable and passionate about beer. His alliterative openings to NBS were a joy to read. RIP Dave.
