Thanks for posting this on, Todd. It really hits home - Dave was a great beer nerd, and an even better person. His work in the old NBS thread was the standard bearer for what I think made that thread so wonderful.

This is so sad to hear, and makes me wish that I made more of an effort to actually meet him in person at least once.

He had a knack of speaking his mind, but always with enough of a personable attitude to bring a genuine sort of engagement to the forums. This place would not have been the same without him.

RIP, Dave, and I'll be sure to toast your memory, and legacy, with one of your favorites soon!

Well done @cavedave. We will wait with weary want, while wishing wandering wing-men, welcome words of wisdom from you, our "Saint of Circumstance" in a "Brokedown Palace".

From Adam, Dave's son, on Facebook:

Hi Doom Saloon, I'm Adam, Dave's son. Thank you for posting such a beautiful memoriam for my dad. It's really great seeing how many lives my dad touched.
I wanted to reach out and provide information about his funeral if you'd like to share it.
His funeral is this Friday, January 30th, at 12:30 pm, at Mount Ararat Cemetery on Long Island. I know that's a long drive for most people, so I will also be hosting a zoom meeting. The meeting ID is 821 7054 4161. The passcode is "CaveDave".

Well said. We wipe weary eyes whilst Brokedown Palace wafts along a willowy wandering...

I look forward to a little sharing of libations and loquacious elocutions to both eulogize Dave and lighten our load.

I feel this is an accurate representation of how I viewed his presence on this site, including my interactions with him. He came across as someone who was truly passionate about the things he enjoyed. Though beer is the most obvious on this site, other posters have mentioned enthusiasm for aspects of his life that I can easily recall from his posts.

Perhaps perfectly apropos is his arrangement alphabetically atop an acknowledgement of passed posters.

QEPDave. I got to know him though the forums, like many others here. I associate him with tisane and mushrooms as much as anything else just from what he shared about both topics.

[IMG] I will say it, a beer Yoda. Amazing words with zealous love for suds. A true BA!

Poured into a 16 oz Yeti Snulip glass. Pours a very attractive near pitch black a 2 finger sticky brown head that leaves thin streaks of lace with solid retention. 4.25

Aroma is coffee grounds, dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, and a little hit of warming alcohol. 4.5

Taste follows coffee and dark chocolate start the party, with vanilla, molasses, and alcohol on the back end, well balanced. 4.5

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle carbonation, not dry, and at 11% it drinks easier, the body could be bigger, but rock solid. 4.25

Overall this is very tasty, I think Dave would have broken it down at another level, but thanks for being a hug part of this community. The man was truly gifted. 4.25

Those two were a Dynamic Duo for NBS, my regret was being fairly late to that party

The fact that he was always active on BA despite illness (and not drinking much) was really special. I think a lot of people who have to stop (or significantly cut back) drinking beer leave the site, which makes sense. His continuous contributions and support for those that were also trying to cut back on drinking were very admirable.

I agree. He was a constant contributor and a true example of what makes this a community. I also enjoyed his positive focus on how is senses got sharper after his period of abstinence, from food to beer to mushrooms.

I'm drinking a 2012 BCBS. I know, I know. Dave would've ripped on me for keeping it around this long. But it is drinking beautifully. I will step outside and toast Dave under the night sky. Cheers Folks.
