Musket from The Bruery. A barleywine aged in Four Roses bourbon barrels. 15.3% ABV. The taste is excellent. Definitely on the boozy side, but not too much so. Dark toffee, bread, vanilla pudding, loads of bourbon, oak, plums, very slight hop presence, maple candy, and a nice note of spice. I'm really enjoying this one!
The Pipeworks Special Reserve Vintage 2017 feels like a very boozy American Barleywine. Rich malts, a lot of spicy alcohol and charred wood. A slow sipper at 14.9%. Not much in the way of flavorings, but pretty silky on lactose.
Another from my revolution haul. Not many Wee-Heavys to be had these days. This is tasting superb right now. Intense malty sweetness up front, raisins, toffee, vanilla, copious booze, coffee cake, and more. This finishes dryer with light smoke and some woody bitterness. Glad to have this one again.
I drank a can too late last night (About 2AM) The first couple of sips I did not care for it too much. but after it warmed up i liked it more. It had a odd but not bad fruit favor that seemed to go away as it warmed. I will give it a 4.18/5 Canned 10/28/25, 13.5%
Interesting. I spent the last couple sips looking for odd fruit. I did find some baked apple but it didn't seem out of place. I gave it a 4.47 years back and I think I'd stick with that.
Haven't opened a Don in a while. This 2022 has gotten a bit sweeter I think. Still lots of booze, tobacco, and fruit, more brown sugar though. Tasting great right now. I just checked their website and it looks like the online store is out of business. Not that I was going to place another order of course... @beergoot
...no, I wasn't really in the market for another online order either...pickings were slim a few months ago...more Don would have been nice, but there are other breweries to support as well...well, I'm not hurting for HoTD beers (for a while at least) ...
This years batch is candy, can't get enough. I just don't remember fresh BF tasting like this years ago. Did SN change the recipe?
I agree that it seems this year's version almost came out with 2-3 years of age. Nothing was said about a change in our Bigfoot tour last month. I've always chocked up the differences year to year to be the strength of the Alpha hops used but who am i to say
A collaboration between Fair State in Minneanoplace and Central Waters from Wisconsin. Purchased a single at Beer Bazaar, should'a bought'em all! Very good!
