My nightcap…Revolution’s Apple Brandy Barrel Ryeway:

Canned 11/5/25. Poured at 51°. Fast fizzy light tan head; ok cap Retention; small island of micro dots; solid ring; spotty lace, and thin legs on swirl. Brandy, caramel nose; boozy retronasal. Sweet spirits, apple pie spice; caramel candy. Dry barrel feel; dry rye; silky, smooth; light carbonation; medium warmth from ABV. Overall, just the right amount of sweetness; base and barrel well balanced; just a pleasure to sip; big boozy apple pie delicious.

One of those rare beers for me where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I wish I had bought more…savoring every sip.

Greenhouse Aleworks ( Rogers, AR ) Cyclamen Triple Hazy IPA w/Enigma, Superdelic, & Strata Hops and Galaxy Spectrum, 10% ABV; 4.24 overall

Pours a super-hazed, almost turbid gold/honey with one finger of eggshell colored head. Average head retention & above average lacing

S: Catty, guava, white grapes. Pineapple orange juice once warmed up, plus passion fruit

T: Follows the nose, a touch of onion, peach & tangerine up front. Pineapple, limes, green melon & faint onion notes once warm, pine as well. Finishes with a little bit of pineapple orange juice with a kiss of booze & plenty of woody hops, pine is the star

MF: Medium body, creamy carbonation, acidity. stellar balance

Major juice bomb, even the onion thing works for me, the heft is present though

Enjoyed a nice old school, circa 2010, DIPA, from a new to me brewery.
    Autoshop
On tap at Barrel & Stave/Jaxons in Fullerton, CA.
Pour is a beautiful golden to amber in color. Looks like honey in a glass. Slight off-white head asserts about an inch in height before dropping down to a thin scattered, almost creamy head. Decent head retention with scattered lithe lacing.
This is old school, 15 years ago, double IPA. Nose brings hints of pine resin, a little bit of orange rind, and a solid malt backbone.
Flavor is a little more varied than the nose. Definitely have the orange rind and pine resin. But there’s a little hint of a tropical note as well along the lines of mango, grass, and a little of melon. The malt base presents like an overall wet grain with a hint of rye.
Mouth feel, again kind of old school, has a little bit of heft with low carbonation and a smooth, bitter finish.

Tower Station IPA - Mango from Mother Road Brewery - and Happy Valentines Day!

It certainly is mango flavored. But it reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents would buy Mexican mangos that had such a strong and weird fruity taste I didn't like them. This is intense and fruity and amplified by the alcohol. While the brewers have not scrimped on the hops, it’s hard to tell if there are hop flavors with the toxic level of fruit. Hot on the tongue and moderately sweet. Overall this is another gas station fuel rod that would be challenging even to the casual buzz seeker.

Note *: I’m declaring Springfest a Pilsner based on my actual experience, as well as the Pilsner malt used. This was for all intents and purposes a Pilsner, though I did not submit a formal style request to Beer Advocate.

1239402[/URL]]@Amendm - Duchesse de Bourgogne by Brouwerij Verhaeghe is one of my favorite beers of all time. Sound like you enjoyed many aspects and the overall experience.

@mactrail - I enjoyed the standard version of Mother Road Tower Station IPA during my lone visit to the brewery.

The lead is likely too far gone for Team Pilsner at this point, even with Chicago-style vote tabulation shenanigans. I’m trying to go back to bed so I can get to Dovetail Brewery with zero IPAs this decade (they do have five India Pale Lagers; the lone IPA was the fundraising SN Resilience IPA to help with the California fires in 2019). They have one Pilsner I haven’t tried and perhaps 1-2 more new to me beers before my palate is shot for beer rating.

I do like the return to a theme weekend tasting. Perhaps we can land on a style or concept today to implement in our Anniversary weekend next week, or one within a few weeks, to give folks time to plan and shop.

    Cheers!

Deer fascinate me @LeRose, given your experience and large chunk of woods have you ever had success with finding sheds?

It is something I keep meaning to do each year with the oldest. Not really with any expectations of finding any, just the hunt and adventure piece. We’ve found some cool stuff in our woods adventures but sheds have evaded us thus far.

Our yard borders a state park, and while it's cool when the deer sleep in the yard, before we mow we have to use a shovel to pick up what they shed. :poop:

Us too but we keep looking. If anybody is going to find them it'll be the rug rat. I gave up hunting years ago, but a hunter friend told me they are suprisingly hard to spot. He said the way to train your eye to find them is to take antlers and toss them into the woods to see then in place. Of course, you have to have an antler to do that with... We've had deer on the concrete patio ten feet from the house. Wary of humans but not entirely terrified anymore.

There's a dump on the property buried under a rock pile. We've found a few gems - a red wine with cocaine bottle from the 1800's is the best one. The land was cleared at some point in history (well before my grandfather owned it) and used for sheep. Still find the occasional livestock bone.

It just popped in my head randomly now but your preference to rice in adjunct lager bodes well for a future year round Von Trapp beer.

I noticed they'd been posting their light lager more and more lately as available at the brewery so I got curious and emailed.

I got a response as always with them, that Von Trapp Light Lager will eventually be available year round in distribution, that is the hope, patiently waiting for it to show up/be announced:

Excellent looking beer; soft, pale yellow appearance with a hint of cloudiness; dense carbonation; thick head, white, frothy and long-lasting. For nice light citrus nose; lemon and lime. The taste builds on the aroma; delicate light malt backbone infused with rounded citrus notes; lemongrass and lemon basil; biscuit. Medium-light body; combined soft and creamy texture yet with a mildly prickly mouthfeel; soft dryness.

I really enjoy this beer. For an Italian-style pilsner, it has a very mild dryness yet also a nice malt softness and roundess. Perhaps it's the use of spaghetti being used in its creation. Regardless, this is a very delightful, easy drinking beer.
