    Resistance88, Defendant.

    COMPLAINT:

TO THE SUPREME COURT OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK

The complaint of the plaintiff, sleffler27, respectfully shows and alleges as follows:

    I sleffler27,

The plaintiff herein, is a resident of the greatish State of New York.

The defendant herein, Resistance88 has a principal place of residence in the state of California.

Defendant Resistance88 is engaged in the business of drinking and posting beer on BeetAdvocate

Plaintiff sleffler27 desired to view and read about Barleywine style beer. The thread in question is described as being such a place.

On or about now, plaintiff viewed a posting from defendant, expecting to see a Barleywine style beer, and finding instead an American Strong Ale known as “Arrogant Bastard”.

Pursuant thereto, plaintiff is seeking the sum of one sweet but not coying Pastry Stout Stout beer to be posted in the ISIL thread by defendant
    Resistance88.

Goose Island King Henry II BBA English Barleywine, 13.5% AV. Pours deep brown, with a one-finger beige head that left no lacing. Aroma is caramel/toffee and bourbon. Taste follows, plus a bit of chocolate, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Excellent smooth mouthfeel, overall world-class. One of the best and smoothest BBA English Barleywines I've had.

I had a 5 year old can a few years ago and apparently loved it. This fresh one, I like to a certain extent.

Plenty of worthy components at work here. The sticky sweetness is there, a nice boozy grape note is there, some oaky tobacco at the finish is there. Unfortunately, I also get an herbaceous, almost vegetal note that is very distracting. A rare miss from what is probably my favorite brewery. Guess I'll age the other 3 cans.

I never had any King Henry's, but the bourbon county barleywine that were also in 3rd use barrels from back in the day were absolutely amazing.

This (Brinkley, a BA barleywine from Transient) is from 2018 and cross posted from the Cellaruary thread. Held up really well, but I wish I’d tried it sooner - it would’ve really popped, IMHO.

Pours a burnished copper color, similar to an antique water heater, is nearly clear, and sports a sudsy tan colored head. Beautiful BA barleywine.

The nose leans heavily on stone fruit, with ripe plums, figs, and raisins most prominent, along with some caramel and oak courtesy of the barrel.

The stone fruit notes are more pronounced on the taste, and so is the caramel, and they combine deliciously, with the oak and subtle booze from the barrel at the back of the palate.

The mouthfeel is a little softer than preferred for the style, probably due to the age (bottled in 2018), but this is still outstanding, IMHO.

Revolution Mineshaft Gap. I like barleywines aged in cognac barrels. I might want more, but I’m kind of trying to be mindful of my out of control beer budget.

I literally just drank one and posted. Luckily, no off flavors you describe. Sometimes a bottle / can gets a little weird, right? I just had that issue with River North BA Sandman the other day: one was bitter and acerbic, with another from the same batch a day or two later perfectly fine. Roll the bones! :beers:

Easy: Every BA release at Buffalo, except Avon anniversary parties, wherein day-prior attendance is required at Avon. The Avon overnight bottle shares are phenomenal events. One guy even brought a bottle of PVW to share (15 year maybe?) for those bourbon inclined.

P.S. I still have a bottle of ParabaJava with your name on it.
