Greetings from inside the DS, BAs! Thought I'd post some items to this forum. I've def got lots more, but here are 2 of the oldest ... The Schlitz light used to hang above my parent's basement bar. It's at least 50 years old, and still lights up AND SPINS! Its quite the conversation piece. The other I scored off fb marketplace, and fits in nicely in the Pirate's Cove corner
I had to look up the spinning Schlitz globe light to see it in action. Found this link if you have the FB -> https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=488831102788792
Lol. Yep, I have video of mine, but pics are tricky enough to post. Couldn't imagine trying to post video!
A few more items from inside the DS... Some vintage cans - mostly from my dad's basement 'museum of memorabilia.' The Miller can is actually a lighter! Then some barware from my grandparents' basement bar, from the 60s and 70s. I clearly remember these items on top of that bar--an old school bar complete with full mirror behind, and shelves and cabinets both under and behind the bar. The bar was the length of one wall- at least 15', maybe 20'. As kids, my sis, cousin, and I would 'play bar.' It's no wonder I eventually became a professional mixologist for many years. Back then in the 70s, it seemed basement bars were common. My patents had a small one, my cousin's folks had a small, but very fancy, one. It's also no wonder that I've got my Doom Saloon out in the garage, and that cousin has a super nice and fancy basement bar! More to come.... Cheers!
That General Pulaski cone top beer can is a well-known fake. https://www.rustycans.com/COLLECTING/fakes.html Concerning that other fake cone top in that article, the Milwaukee Brand Premium Beer: Had a boss once who I would see at local flea markets. Both he and my SO at the time collected milk glass/Fire King dishware and they did some trading once or twice (Sunkist orange juice reamers IIRC). Once I went into his office and saw that Milwaukee can on a shelf. "Uh, that's not a real vintage cone top beer can..." Sheepishly, he said, "Yeah...I found that out.". I think he paid a lot for it...... (at least, "a lot" in late 1970s dollars).
Wow! That's wild! Luckily my dad didn't pay a lot, if anything, for it. Gotta check in with him. Cheers!
For some reason my first two pics are showing Image Not Found icon? So, here's a video clip of the Schlitz light! https://youtube.com/shorts/wM7-OfS_Hb8?si=IC6ModGxpWSbloK-
imgbb displays that when the image no longer exists. Just tested the image URLs and both aren't found. If you find them or reupload them, you can DM me the URLs and I'll update the post.
And this... seems the beer is no longer brewed. Read a few BA posts about its history. Not sure how it found its way into the DS
Grizzly Beer was #1 US import Heineken's answer to the rise in popularity of Canadian imports like Molson (#2) and Labatt (#5) but especially Moosehead - which had quickly risen to the #4 imported beer position by 1983. Heineken's wholly-owned subsidiary Amstel had purchased a brewery (previously owned by a company with connections to Germany's Henninger) in Hamilton, Ontario in the early 80s. Grizzly Beer was introduced in the US before it was even sold in Canada, imported by long-time Heineken partner, Van Munching.
