Maybe a little less known Belgian Abbey-style (but no abbey involved) beer.

It is nowadays from the troubled Alken-Maes brewery, which changed hands a lot over time.
    Seems nowadays a Heineken-product.
I have noted it is still hugely populair in some parts of Wallonia.
But I do not see or taste much international success for this beer.
It is nice, but nothing special.

Cheers, Tom! The first time I drank at McSorley's was in 1979 or 1980. At that time, women had only been permitted inside for about 10 years and there was still only one bathroom. My first experience with "unisex." They used to bottle their labeled ale and we could buy it here in North Jersey.

This is a great book by a longtime writer from The New Yorker. The first section is entitled, "McSorley's Wonderful Saloon." It includes several fun, anecdotal stories about McSorley's back in the 1940's and ''50's. I recommend it - should be available on Ebay. Enjoy your time in NYC!

We are already on the subway to connect to LaGuardia.
Easiest time I ever had in a bar
Pepe the 70 year bar tender was hilarious and sat with me and my daughter for an hour.
We chatted with everyone at the bar.
The other Irish bartender was so awesome
We put some serious rounds down in 60 minutes, light and dark, it was so fun!

Last beer for this eve. Probably my favorite tripel.

I would never have tried a beer with such a corny label without you, fellow beer advocates.
Thank you, learned my lesson: never judge a book on its cover.

Folks celebrating Bulgarian Independence Day downtown in Chicago. Happy Holiday to Bulgians and anyone else celebrating today here or in Bulgaria or Europe.

Now at Dovetail, first stab at this style. Tastes like a racket or perhaps a lemon 7 up. Full take linked below.

So, I went back to the place selling Heady Topper, after a two week break (to give everyone a fair shot at it, after all I did get three cases this past summer), and they still had Heady! No brainer!

...nice seeing the blood moon phases earlier this morning...now enjoying the light rain and moodiness of the afternoon within the hallowed walls of the 'Fortress of Solitude'...

Rhinegeist Brewery -- Barrel Aged Guatemalan Café Ink
Imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with coffee
    ABV: 12.1%; pouring temperature; 54.8 ℉; bottling info: 2025
    Source: Tavour
Auxiliary vices: Omar Ortez -- Maduro toro; Col. E.H. Taylor -- Small Batch (for mental adjustment)

Very nice dark reddish-brown color to the pour, opaque and black appearance in the glass; thick head, tan colored, densely frothy, long-lasting. Pleasant nose combining soft cocoa elements with dark roasted grains. Wonderful taste; milk chocolate interspersed with sly whiskey notes; a bit of caffeine presence. Soft and velvety feel; residual sugar stickiness; soothing boozy warmth.

It is nice to find a barrel aged imperial stout that one can describe as mellow yet delivers a soft jolt. Well-balanced, boozy but not terrifyingly so, with a fine variety of flavor complexities.

Well, I detailed my brad nailer and there was some scheiße in the compression chamber that shouldn't have been there. Squeaky clean now and shoots from the hip. Time for another Junkyard Grandpa's Pils with a rating and review. It's damn good. Kinda fruity but also has a bready malt structure that is really a keystone for the taste overall. Pretty nice sauce.:beers:

Enjoying your New York City posts @TCgenny ! Need to make it to McSorley’s. My beer distributor brother enjoyed it, as do most or perhaps all who enter.

I really enjoy this beer, said so as far back as February 2020. However, my review seems to be gone, so this will be a provisional drive in the event I never find an original review. Bottom line, love the flavors here, caramel, busviur, a little lemon and citrus playing hide and seek.
