I’m simply one that likes to change it up. I had ‘that beer’ last week? Then more often than not, I’ll go with a different one this week. And because I rated this beer so well when I first had it years back, I decided to try it again since I probably haven’t had it since when I rated it. But Raul… What the hell? I originally gave this a 3.5 overall, but hot damn is it tough to drink tonight. It just finishes on a sweet medicinal/paste-like note that is so off-putting that I went and got a lime to try and cover it up. Only and always, here’s to beer, and to challenging your palate. But ayyyyyyy is this one bad. Cheers!

Good Evening @RaulMondesi . In the process of trying to shift to being awake in the day with the upcoming clock change. Scheduled to serve as an election judge back to back days (March 17 Primary and March 18 CPS), so hopefully I can survive both long days.

Will go to a cellar brew while watching the live stream of the Eastside Cannery implosion which is scheduled for 4 AM CST, 2 AM PST (link below). This can is the last from this vintage I own.

good day BAs! Thanks @RaulMondesi for opening the bar - yep, for me, lime/lime juice has saved more than one crappy beer from the drain!

I have been able to get my phone to charge a bit, but, it must have some sand blocking the port a bit. The last few days here have been fun. Way too many Red Stripe beers yesterday, around 20. A lot of Red Stripe beers at the pool bar, where the motto of the bartender is: "more rum, more fun".

More Red Stripe, more fun. Last day here. Headed home tomorrow.

A big boy, and a handsome one at that. Maybe even a bit of a looker. He must be a real hit in the neighborhood.

Sierra Nevada Springfest is nicely balanced. I wouldn't mind drinking several of these while I work on my bikes.

And this is definitely helping. I might have to buy some 4 packs when the weather warms up, it will be a great summer beer.
    Cheers!

    ...back for a revisit: March 05th, 2026

Clear, dark amber pour; thick, lasting, off-white head, fairly dense with a gently rolling cap. Very nice malt aroma; earthy sweetness with an easy herbal overtone. Rich medium-roasted malt backbone; great sweetness; subliminal ripened dark fruit; raisin; mild suggestion of nuts. Rich, velvety mouthfeel; gentle underlying warmth and stickiness.

This well-crafted, classic beer style meets all the parameters for a great doppelbock.

    Original ratings, scores & review:

    3.75 3.5 3.5 3.5 3.5; BA weighted overall score: 3.52; rDev: -4.3%

Dark amber body; dense, creamy head. Malty, sweet aroma; warm caramel. Much like the smell, malty with a caramel presence; balanced blending of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Heavy body; rich and warm.

A decent doppelbock yet without any distinctive qualities.

...needless to say, my impressions of this beer have drastically improved from ten years ago...

Today, it's rainy, with considerable fog, out here in McGregor--but it's cool that spring has woken from her slumber and decided to visit. Both cats Gracie and Sundae were happy to help me check out the three new brews for the day: First, with Sundae, it's my seventeenth beer from Toronto, Ontario's Burdock Brewery--their 10% Triple Ducks Triple IPA...

    Poured...

More momentarily! Cheers, from McGregor! =)

Next, also with Sundae, my second brew from Petrolia, Ontario's Black Gold Brewery--the 4.2% What the Frack Brown Ale...

    Poured...

Finally, with Gracie, it's my sixteenth beer from nearby Tecumseh, Ontario's Frank Brewing Co.--their 4.2% Strawberry Lemonade Sour (85% for me as well)...

Tomorrow: Three more new beer investigations for me to discover, from the following Ontarian breweries:
    --Cameron's Brewing Company (Oakville; my sixteenth);
--Nickel Brook Brewing Co. (Burlington; my eighteenth); and
--Trestle Brewing (Parry Sound; my fourth)...

Have a great rest of your day, and cheers...from The Responsible Beer Drinking Club! =)
