Bar hopping a little bit this afternoon...

Firs stop is Great Heights Brewing. Waxie's Dargle Irish Dry Stout in the glass. A very nice example of the style, as always.

Then their Dancing House Czech Pils...which is a great lager.

    Busch Light after yardwork.
(A lot of boring AALL pics in my VB future as I’m trying to shed some tonnage for a shot at a PR in the Flying Pig Half again this year. )
6 miles this morning of one mile repeats below race pace….at 77* temps.
    Anyway, Cheers VB!![IMG]

After Great Heights, wandering on over to Hughie's, one of my favorite spots in town. Great Vietnamese beer bar...

I finally get to try the Sierra Nevada Springfest IPA, and this is very nice. Review over at the NBW thread.

Then a Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA on tap, which I haven't seen in a LONG time. With an amazing pork Banh Mi, with pate, and eggroll.

A beer I first drank a long time ago. The maple is nice, but anymore I want a bolder taste.

It is a very good one. They have also made this much more often, I think they are trying to ramp up production to be a year round...which I'm all about.

No worries about that. Last time I was a sore loser about Team France losing was during the 2006 World Cup final against Italy and Zinedine Zidane head butting the Italian guy, leading to losing. Since then don’t get too emotionally invested in sports defeats whatsoever.

    LOL - I've been researching ... :sunglasses:

Let the can warm slightly (CRITICAL)
Nitro beers pour best at 45–50°F, not fridge‑cold.

If the can is too cold:
    • nitrogen stays dissolved
    • the widget fires weakly
    • the cascade is muted or invisible

Take the can out of the fridge for 10–15 minutes before pouring.
This one step fixes 70% of “no cascade” issues.

Berkshire Brewing Company (BBC) is quietly interesting: they don’t do nitro the same way most Massachusetts breweries do.

They’re old‑school, methodical, and very “English pub” in their approach — which makes their nitro beers feel different from the modern craft‑nitro trend.

BBC uses true nitrogenation, not “nitro‑style” carbonation

Many MA breweries cheat a little:
    - They carbonate normally
    - Then push the beer through a nitro faucet
    - Or use a mixed‑gas blend without fully nitrogenating the beer

BBC actually nitrogenates the beer in the tank before packaging or kegging.
    That gives:
    - smaller bubbles
    - a tighter cascade
    - a softer mouthfeel
    - a more stable head

It’s closer to Guinness than to modern craft nitro stouts.

And we wrapped up early, so there's time for the regular afternoon beer after all! Worked out quite well. Getting some practice in.

De Garre is good, but I agree, there are better. More than on sale in the U.S., it was probably once hard to get. BAs used to love that in a beer. :beers:
