I think we need to distinguish between Heady and what Tree House makes - King Julius, Green… I think we should call Heady a New England IPA and Tree House beers as hazy IPAs
NEIPA and Hazy IPA seem synonymous these days. VT IPAs have their own style and characteristics, like the West Coast. There's a difference between the slight haze of a hoppy, yeasty, unfiltered beer, and the thick, murky, soft, fluffy, non-bitter NEIPAs of Treehouse and the like.
There’s a discussion whether Heady Topper is a hazy IPA. BA officially says it’s not, though many think it is. I think there is a bigger difference between Heady and Treehouse beers than between Heady and classic WCIPAs.
Hetty Alice is a Portland brewery that flies a bit under the radar. They make beers in a good range of styles that are always solid and sometimes exceptional. Giddyup IPA smells pretty spectacular, but is otherwise a solid but not exceptional WCIPA.
I had a Lawson's Hopcelot for the first time yesterday, and it was absolutely delicious. I haven't had a bad beer from them yet!
