I am very clear I don’t respect 24oz cans of Modelo Cheladas. That doesn’t mean I can’t like them, there’s just no way I’m not buying them for home consumption. In fact there are some I can like, but I don’t “respect” them.

Let’s be clear, though: I’m bad-mouthing them. Hard feelings are my thing.

Do any of you have beers like that, regardless of style?

    Here’s a few likeable beers I don’t respect:

    Modelo Chelada

    Genessee Ice

    Corona

    Anyone care to share?

Rainier, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, Blue Moon Belgian White, and Pacifico come to mind.

As you said, Corona Extra’s not too bad either.

I respect all the beer that I drink. That said, this is a beer that I like to drink on occasion that gets me no respect:

Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss - it's as if a wine cooler were made with beer instead of wine.

Oh wait, you said beers you LIKE. Scratch this then. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That's a beer? I always assumed it was malt liquor...

Cheap German pilsners/helles/schwarzbiers that cost $20 for a case of 500 ml cans (Wolters, Colbitzer, Eichbaum, etc.).

I could drink those all day, but quality wise it’s far away from the more major German brands.

OK, I will 'play' this game.

A few days ago when shopping got beer at my local Retail Beer Distributor (I ended up picking up the Troegs recent seasonal of a Black IPA) I actually had in my hands a sixpack of Utica Club. I flipped the cans over and while there was black ink on the bottom of the can I couldn't figure it out. I thought to myself: it's only 7 bucks just give it a try. But I ended up placing back on the shelf but I am still pondering that beer.

I suspect that I will 'crack' and just buy this beer next time I am there. I have no respect for this beer but what the heck, I might enjoy drinking it for what it is: a regional AAL beer.

    Cheers!

Maybe I’m too old, but I only buy beers I like, or that I haven’t had yet but I think I’ll like. I don’t want to waste the calories and money on beer I don’t like.

I'm with you. My days of experimentation are largely in the past (though on occasion...). There are so many beers out there I know I'm going to like... why buy something I'm almost certainly going to dislike (like a nasty, sour lambic)?

Utica Club is annoyingly good...I can't imagine being out of code would even do too much damage.

This is about beer you like, but don't respect.

Hamm's & Coors Banquet. I always have either in the fridge during the summer. I used to love Bud Light Lime before discovering craft beer, haven't had one in probably a decade though.

Unlike the other thread, I feel styles mainly fit the bill for me here. Two similar styles that can offer individual beers I can quite like, but don't "respect" are under-attenuated pastry stouts and overly fruited kettle sours.

Then there are beers I like from breweries /. ownership I don't respect, but that's a different thing, altogether.

"what if a beer always tasted like an oit-of-code lager by a good brewery"?

Agree, I read this the other way around at first. There's definitely the inverse for me.

For the most part if I like a beer, I respect it. I respect the work they do at Coors or any other massive company because I know it's not easy, it takes a ton of skill and that's not an easy style to make.

I'm sure there's some lazy kettle sours or seltzers I would try, like, but have no real regard for. There's definitely some cheat codes out there but I don't really gatekeep my "respect".

I read this thread as basically beers you feel bad for liking. Guilty pleasures.

Like Kona Big Wave. I tried it once at an Applebee’s. Not bad. A group came in and ordered drinks before a Brewers game. They paid for their drinks but left without touching them. The bartender asked if I wanted the untouched Big Wave. Sure! I’m not proud that I like it, but I do. Shrug.
