OK, we've seen the other beer respect threads, but what beer (or style) doesn't respect you? Which beer/style leaves you asking what they hell were they thinking, and what the hell was I thinking by trying it?

For me it has to be Ballast Point Indra Kunindra, a curry stout. They suckered me in with curry, which I love as a spice. The beer smells incredible, the taste not so much, so I recommend opening and just smelling it. What the hell were they thinking? As far as consuming, I'll stick with curry chicken.

    I love that beer

My answer is anything with an overtly smokey flavor. I don't want my beer to taste like a campfire or an ashtray

I will 'answer' for two buddies. I met up with my buddies Chuck and Phil yesterday for a cask beer event at a local craft brewery: Brothers Kershner. They both got there before me and already got their first pours. I asked Chuck: what beer are you drinking. He didn't say anything but offered me his glass to try. I took a sniff and responded: Whoa! That beer is very smoky? Do you like it? He responded: take a sip. I took a very small sip and replied: Yeah, but do you like it? He was being cagey and would only say: I won't be getting it again. My buddy Fred also drank this Smoked Lager. Later in the day when we were about done drinking I commented to Chuck that he was a trooper and finished his first beer of Smoked Lager. He replied: Na. I dumped the last third of the beer when you weren't looking.

Now for my first beer I got a Wild Ale from Referend Bier Blendery. This beer was both funky and sour from the wild yeast/bacteria used to ferment it. I enjoyed this beer but neither of my buddies would take a sip after smelling it.

Different strokes for different folks! :beers:

    Cheers!

Anything that calls itself an IPA. I can handle some hops, but not like that.

And I agree with the smoke category. Not just Rauchbier, but anything with a “prominent” smoke flavor. A hint of smoke is fine, but not SMOKE IYKWIM.

    I dislike friar flavored beer
I dislike really sour beers. I’m happy to see they are going out of style.

I dislike anything bottled in green glass because it skunks so much of the time. I know that isn't a style, but it is my best answer to the question.

Habanero Sculpin for me. The heat was just so overpowering. I enjoy spicy foods but this was just too much. Almost like Ballast Point played a prank on me, and also pranked one of the best beers they had at the time.

You listed some specific examples but I was shocked that you didn't mention Pastry Stouts. :astonished:

    Any pumpkin beer.

Any beer with cucumber (Yeah, yeah, I know Free States' Garden Party has won awards but I'm one of the few that think it's swill).

Any beer with overwhelming capsaicin/peppery heat (& I'm a pepperhead!).

    Any wild/brett/puckerpuss sour brew.

And there's probably a few more styles I could list but those are the first few that come to mind.

I repeat (and have for years) cucumbers DO NOT belong in beer!!!!!!!!!

Beers with chili peppers or pickles added. I also hate beers with the word Chelada in them.

Any beer that comes as a pre-mixed beer+other liquid in a stovepipe can. Michelada or however the hell it is spelled comes to mind. They scream “ drink it from a can in a bag in the ghetto”. I won’t even consider buying one.

Another category that i consider an insult is any beer with fanciful, near imaginary flavor profiles on the can. If I don’t get a similar sensory perception I will note it in my review and score…

Witbiers and anything brewed with cryo hops (it makes the beer taste like wet plastic to me).
