Yeah I understand the trepidation. It's worth trying though and I'd love to read your thoughts. I wish they would have released these in four packs of two each so we could do our own alchemy!
This came up on Tavour, but seemed pretty expensive. I think it might have been almost $10 a can, but I can't remember. Nice to see BA stuff that's affordable!
Tavour is funny, oftentimes their price is the same, or even cheaper (Firestone), as what I see on the shelves locally. And this one's all but double. Weird.
I may have to go get a third one if available in Mills River and stash the two brews in our crawl space for a minute!
Transient Artisan Ales Jean Clawed. 2.5 years in BLiS maple barrels and 1 year in Eastern Kille bourbon. Great interplay of bourbon, wood, maple.
Then a Kuhnhenn’s BA barleywine. My review has better thoughts and notes. Think American Revolution when you drink any Kuhnhenn’s.
...loving and missing Burns Family Artisan Ales and this beer...at least I got to snag this one bottle of 'Auld Lang Syne'... Burns Family Artisan Ales -- Auld Lang Syne Brandy barrel aged imperial barleywine ABV: 16.1%; pouring temperature: 53.3 °F; bottling info: Vintage - 2020 - Ages Gracefully 25+ Years - Source: brewery purchase 4.35/5 rDev +5.1% look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25 Dark amber pour, appears a deep mahogany red in the glass, clear; dense, slow-rising carbonation; thin yet lasting head, khaki hued with a fairly dense and creamy texture. Powerful nose infused with rich, toasted caramel notes; nearly hidden pome fruit esters. A divine taste; rich, malty caramel with suggestions of dried figs; earthy spiciness, cardamon with a trace of cinnamon; an earthy booziness. Heavy mounthfeel, thick and viscous; sublime alcohol warmth permeates everything. Great googly moogly, but this imperial barleywine is fine. The label states this will age gracefully for 25+ years, but 1) I can't wait that long to try this single bottle, and 2) I likely won't be around to drink it at age 94. Yes, this thing is tasty at around six years of age. I consider it a shame that the brewery shut its doors last year, so the likelihood of getting a second bottle of this is slim, but I would jump at the opportunity to get my greedy little beer mitts on another bottle. ------------------------------------------------ ...for a barrel aged barleywine, this thing is quite approachable (for the style)...
A 12oz can of Lakefront Kitchen Sink Rum barrel barelywine Canned 09OCT2025. Looks like 10.9 % printed on the bottom of can but is hard to read. Flavors of caramel, hint of dark fruit, vanilla, hint of honey and plenty of smooth mellow rum. This one is smooth and very sweet, it's malty on the thick side. I like it and will give it a 3.92/5 overall https://untappd.com/b/lakefront-bre...n-sink-barleywine-aged-in-rum-barrels/6484433
More cellar dive beer. 11/14/2016 Weyerbacher Insanity. One of my favorite English Barleywines. Insanely smooth and silky bourbon barrel complexity with rich toffee/caramel malts and dark fruits in the background. lingering warmth of 11.1%. I need to seek out their beers in NC. Cheers
16oz can of 'Canned Honey" Wheatwine from Fifth Ward In Oshkosh WI. 14.4% Canned 10/1/2025 Barrel aged 3 to 4 years. Taste is chocolate, red wine, a mild earthy roast, honey, vanilla/wood. It's on the sweet side but finishes a little dry. There is some alcohol heat but it's not harsh. 4.28/5 overall https://untappd.com/b/fifth-ward-brewing-company-canned-honey/6492075
