I had a number (6) of beers set aside for the Irish style dry stout or simply Irish style beer but I didn’t see it. So I’m going to drink a few with you lot today as my appreciation for Irish style stout tasting day.
First up is the OG, or rather the lower ABV of the OG. The actual original was a point or three higher in ABV and people were getting far more inebriated than normal and making hooligans of themselves. (Which led to the outside urinals)
Anyway, to combat this national crisis, it was Guinness to the rescue. They started making a lower ABV stout for pubs and the national inebriation level returned to normal.
This one has set in my cellar way too long but it’s the last one so I’m good to go.

I have a Nitro Coffee version up next I think.

Happy St. Pat's Day, all! I was researching recipes for a good corned-beef braising liquid and one that caught my eye called for a malty beer. I had an unopened growler of a Big Grove one-off Bohemian Zwickel in the fridge, which I got at their Cedar Rapids taproom a while back. It was a very small experimental batch, brewed at that location and only available there. I raved to the server about how great it was and she presented me with a growler as I was leaving. My brisket is now braising in that glorious liquid with a little bouillon, Worcestershire sauce, a few cloves of garlic, and a chunk of onion. Oh, and potatoes and cabbage. I have another Cedar Rapids brew on hand for later, an Irish-style dry stout from Lion Bridge. Slainte!

Oh man can't wait to go fishing, ice is almost out! Yuengling Light and Field & Stream collab - wouldn't mind winning this Montana lodge fishing trip!

Being half-Irish, I've always had mixed emotions about the endeavour--as there are many fine things to celebrate about, in terms of Irish culture, yet it seems most defined and associated with irresponsibly imbibing. It's still very windy today, out here in McGregor--and both cats Gracie and Sundae were happy to be around while I responsibly investigated my new beers of the day...a celebration of Ontarian craft breweries: First, with Gracie, it's my third brew from Toronto's Radical Road Brewing Company--their 5% Yuzu Pale Ale...

I completed a brisk 2 mile walk on this chilly St. Pat’s Day and mystically found myself sitting in a local hangout of my younger days. How could I pass it by? Me mudder was a Farley, after all. Slainte!

Flights got fucked. Now in LAX waiting for plane to SFO. But.... at least they have Lagunitas on tap! Been too long...

Premium is good. Always liked it.
I bought this old ashtray at a flea market in Fountainstown, Cork probly 1998. Glad I still have it and have never used it. It's from the 1970s. There weren't even telephone land lines in that village until about 1978. I've not seen another one like it. Chairs!!
