Gouden Carolus Tripel. Not sure if that’s because I almost never buy it or because it’s super special; I find it to be one of the best Belgian Tripels:
Inspired by the thread from @Shanex , I decided to open my last big bottle of De Garre tripel. This is probably 3-4 years old, but there is no date on the bottle. I actually bought this beer in Austin when I was there a few years ago. It's tasting fantastic!
2014 Kriek from Cantillon. Picked this one up when it was released 12 years ago. Poured at cellar temp (55 degrees). 5% ABV. This is absolutely phenomenal. The cork has seen better days. The nose is raspberry, cherry, sour, slight funk, wheat, orange. The taste is super tart. Mouth puckering. Sour grapes, raspberries, sour cherries, slight lemon, grass, slight citrus peel, and a touch of spice. This is so damn good.
Probably one of my small regrets on my trip to Belgium. Really wanted to make it to Brugge , but i was moving around and drinking so much that i had to take a break and skip Brugge . I just wanted that little cute glass and maybe a bottle. Next time
I haven’t had this for years. Nice someone asked if Unibroue is still distributing. I used to see a lot of it on the shelves, but this is all I found on the shelves today - and I’m less than an hour from the brewery
Better than I remembered and very nice to complete the set with this review. 4.34/5 rDev +0.2% look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25 11.2 oz bottle dated L .o7 .04 .30 into a chalice. L: Pours a murky mahogany brown color with a 1/2" slightly creamy light beige head that is slightly fizzy and recedes to light skin and edge froth, light steady carbo, a few dots of lace. S: Caramelized malts, candy sugar, a hint of brown bread. T: Caramelized malts, a hint of toffee, a brown bread note, a touch of confection sugar, more malts emerge as the beer warms, it is gently sweet. Very little aftertaste, no alcohol detected. F: Slightly lively, brisk, medium to medium-light bodied mouthfeel with a short moderately dry finish. O: A sipper that is simple, delicate and delicious. Every drink I take is very comforting. This beer compliments cheeses, smoked meats, dried fruits and nuts. It is world-class. Oct 25, 2021 https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/207/
So, if you live in Montpelier; it appears you have a two-hour drive to Unibroue. Drive up and enjoy a nice lunch and a few beers and bring back the maximum beers customs allows. Be sure to bring a few peeps with you to maximize the haul and then trade them Trader!
May be some interest within the thread on this new label. Will have to see when it might make its way over.
