Is it just me, or has forum discussions overall on Beer Advocate really exploded in member participation lately? Seems like discussions were on the decline the last 5 years or so, but lately (outside of the WBAYDN and New Beer Sunday threads), the conversations are really picking up. A lot of shout out to @JackHorzempa as I’ve noticed in the last year or 2 he in particular has started a lot of interesting conversation topics on the forum. I’m sure several others as well have really contributed. Just wondering if my observations are accurate or I’m observing things from a warped perspective?

Todd (@Todd) is the person to address this topic.

I am confident that he monitors level of participation on this site.

    Cheers!

I’m glad I finally joined BA. I’m a beer enthusiast, and I’ve been getting bored with Untappd.

Once I started participating, I realized how much I miss forums. The discussions here have been pretty lively, and most people are positive and supportive. I’m having fun so far.

And I do like starting topics to keep things going.

You're observations are indeed accurate. In recent months...
    • Posts (threads and replies) have increased by over one thousand per week
    • Active users have increased by over two thousands per week
    • New users have doubled per week
And I'm working on a few things that'll encourage even more growth and participation.

Glad to know my spidey scenes weren’t deceiving me. I’m seeing numerous threads started just a few days ago that are many pages deep. Great to see the discussions.

For myself, it's that I set up an RSS reader again. I'm staying a lot more current with the site again now that I'm using a feed reader.

Jack is correct and Todd knows about the data holding the keys of BA, but I certainly noticed increased participation. For a forum in the age of Meta/Tiktok and so forth that inspire and warrant respect (beer).

Remember when Beer Forums were a place for in depth, mature conversations about beer in all its aspects?
    BeerAdvocate remembers!

I've been trying to be more active. Feels like all the local FB beer groups are dying, so I've been coming to BA more frequently to get my fix.

Well, if all that matters is clicks and posts, and not the content of those posts, a fair number of posts are posting video links, and all the various reactions to them. There's not a lot of value in posting a shitty video, and then having a bunch of folks respond by pleading for it to stop.

There are forums on Untappd? Seriously I had no idea and I don’t think I care.

    I’m loving it so far!

I appreciate the different perspectives. And I’ve had to look up a bunch of beers everyone talks about, especially Heady Topper and Pliny the Younger/Elder.

Loftus may not actually be too far from me, but Wisconsin is a big place. If I ever meet him, or any of you others In definitely buying you a beer! :beers:

Sure, for some it comes natural. The rest of us wax poetic only in the throes of 17%+ Stouts and Barleywines.
