Lots of great beers Thursday night. My star was Shere Drop from Surrey Hills an excellent Bitter. Black Grouse and Bravehop from Loch Lomond were very popular pours.
So many great beers last night! I tried to drink mostly UK stuff. Everything was awesome. Seriously. Not a single one was even mediocre. Loved every sip of my many sips. “Last Drop” from Windsor and Eton was a standout for me. Well done NERAX! Big thanks to all the volunteers.
A huge thank you to all of the organizers and planners for this year's NERAX. It is a highlight for me every year. A fantastic range of beers and well run in every aspect. And, despite the boos and hisses, I'll even express my gratitude to the Reaper for a job well done. I also spent most of my time sampling the UK beers which were all great. The highlights for me were the Crooked River Bitter and the Surrey Hills Ranmore.
Seriously. It was the busiest I’ve ever seen it early Saturday. Which is a good thing. More people enjoying cask means more cask.
I'm assuming you're saying the Whirlpool is controversial since it's a Hazy Pale Ale? I thought there were more American IPA's and Pale Ales brewed by the Brits than in past years.
Typically I feel this crowd goes mostly for the the classic UK styles and the UK beers in general. A US hazy pale ale is the exact opposite. I I had three US beers total, everything else was UK. Had to do the Schilling Schankbier on Stichfass and also wanted to have the Suarez beer since we don't see their beers around here.
I had to try the Fox Farm offering, as they are one of my favorite breweries. I think that was the only US one I tried.
I wanted to try that one as well since I don't see their beer on cask ever. However, I get to drink a fair amount of Fox Farm as a couple good beer bars around here get a lot of their stuff.
