I don't understand this move, there isn't much to Untappd other than being a totally integrated beer rating phone app, taking away DMs severely reduced its functionality.
I was reluctant to join BA for a while, but I was coming to read the posts so often that I finally decided I should just jump in. I haven't been on any social media and expect that BA will be my only participation in that regard. Except for Instagram, and that's just to monitor the several breweries I am most interested in.
I appreciate the video posts. Some have some interesting content, and I can always ignore them if I'm not interested.
Point was that those threads often get a lot of action because we chat/argue about the videos and creators rather than the actual content of the videos. Empty calories if you will.
Aww shucks Hmm empty calories, weirdly addictive, inspires pointless debate what would beer drinkers possibly find to like in that?
As I've sed for over a year or more now, **** 'Dumcrapped' and it's laughable "drink" rating app when you can join, interact & support BA with a much more discerning, knowledgeable, critical, appreciative class of BEER 'drinkers' instead of a high-school-popularity-contest-shit-show like 'Dumcrapped'?
I enjoy Untappd as a way to log beers, add a photo to remember that beer. Photo could be the beer, who I am with or a photo of where I am. Great to scroll back years later and remember a moment in time. Anything I do there is all for me only. My BIL is my only follower. The once a year or so I see him I can look at his check ins and bring him beer based on his top check ins. There is a place for Untappd and BA. Enjoy
Thanks for my "first like" and now the bullets are really flying. "I know what you're thinking. 'Did he drink six beers or only five?' Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being as this is a 44 Magnum, the most powerful "malt liquor" in the world... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?" But seriously: I’m just out here trying to figure out if I’m the guy with the loaded six-pack or the guy still drinking just to put up another review... Either way, I’ll keep posting until the forum tells me to “get off my lawn.” I came for palate calibration and now I'm staying, because I accidentally started talking to people. BTW Somebody still needs to wake up DarkLordScott... Update: we’re still somewhere around 996 bottles… of beer on the wall.. TheBeerEngineer
From my short experience here on BA, this seems to be the overwhelmingly most enjoyable part. For me, at least. There is a LOT of knowledge about a whole bunch of different parts of the spectrum of the beer world along with some pretty intense personalities, yet everyone seems to get along okay. Or at least tolerate each other and continue to interact. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's all online, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that if I ever got a chance to meet any of you all IRL, that it'd be just as enjoyable as having a conversation in the forums or having a pint in WBAYDN. Thanks guys. This has been an amazing outlet for me and I hope it only gets better.
So March wound up being our highest month within the last two years with 18,328 posts across 217 threads. Hell yeah!
Can't it be both! But... badges!! (Don't even...) A voice in the wilderness cries out "Challenge coin! Challenge coin!" New Glarus Belgian Red for me, thank you!
No clue if there's any data to support it, but I feel like the social aspect of Untappd has majorly fallen off. On the other hand, I think the logistical aspect on the business side is at an all-time high. Places that use Untappd as their official "this is what we have available right now" on their website or on a TV in their establishment. It has become the industry standard.
