When was the last time you had a beer(s) from a pitcher?

An ongoing thread (14.5 ounce glass) got me thinking on this topic.

Back in the day I would often consume beers from pitchers (e.g., Yuengling beers) with a bunch of friends at basically corner bars. We would go there after softball games, etc.

To quote my buddy John: “I always like when we order pitchers because I know that I will get more than my fair share!” Yeah, John likes his beers!! :beers:

I must confess I can’t recall the last time I drink a beer poured from a pitcher. Maybe 20+ years ago?

    How about you?

    Cheers!

Gotta be 20 years for me too.

Participated in a “pitcher race” once. Three friends and I ordered our own pitcher and proceeded to see who could drink theirs’ the fastest. I won. Or lost, depending on how you look at it.

Pre covid there was, still is a Korean Karaoke bar that had $10 craft pitchers for happy hour. SNPA, Lagunitas IPA and a few others. Well worth the walk over to have a few with friends. Not been back since Covid. I have seen the pitcher option when out a few times, not made the purchase though as I like to try multiple beers if I can.

Years ago I did buy pitchers when out with friends, it was very common and cost was a bit less.

I have had beer from a pitcher when someone has a keg but I’m not counting this scenario.

    Enjoy

I am reminded of a BA from Germany ( I feel bad I can't remember his name as I type this message :slight_frown:) who posted that when he visited the US (I seem to recall that his wife was American) they went to a bar and he ordered a pitcher of beer and used that as his beer mug. He stated that all of the other people in the bar gave him strange looks.

I suppose that for him the pitcher was a substitute for the 1 liter Maß (mass) mug he would drink from in Germany?

    Prost!

P.S. The German BA's name was Stahlstrum

Guinness from a pitcher at Uncle Tony's Pizza. Over 10 years ago.

What was the size of that pitcher (64 ounces)? What was the price?

    Cheers!

Maybe back when I visited my buddy in Syracuse over 20 years ago for penny pitcher night. Too many options these days and everyone has different tastes. Doesn't really make sense anymore.

Couldn't even tell you but it was probably at bowling alley with my brother-in-law while we were entertaining the kids

That’s funny, I remember seeing a video of some Irish people on vacation in the US. They were horrified when they were served a pitcher of Guinness. Only in America!

They're still a thing in a lot of bowling alleys. No clue if they're actually a good value vs. individual beers, but I always order 'em when I'm bowling. Probably just a nostalgia thing.

Other than that, it has probably been 10+ years. I don't know if very many restaurants even still have them. They were pretty widespread throughout the 00's. "Let's order a pitcher!" was a battle cry I uttered frequently. I don't know when or why, but it seems like they all but disappeared somewhere around 2012...right when craft beer was starting to peak.

Brooklyn Brown ale about 12 years ago. This fantastic dive bar had $6 pitchers and $.50 wings every Wednesday.

    80s I reckon.

The Old Chicago has some beer towers that hold 88 ounces of beer but I have never indulged.

My guess is just the industry standard size pitcher which is 60oz. I paid around $24 for their Amigo Lager. :beers:

Last October at Zion Canyon Brew Pub after our group hiked the Narrows. Unfortunately, everyone else in the group wanted Michelob Ultra...

Oh shit! You just reminded me that my wife and I shared a pitcher of 'Gansett at Twins Pizza around five years ago.

Even though I'm clearly not ordering many pitchers these days, I really do love that pitchers are available at some solid pizza spots in RI.

Oh, Yardhouse still sells Yards of beer. Although I think it's not a full yard in length anymore. I see those ordered frequently at the Yardhouse by me.

It's been a long time for me too. The last time was probably at Amherst Brewing Company, maybe 10 years ago, when I went with a bunch of friends who all had similar taste in IPAs.

More recently, I got a growler of beer — I own a couple of very nice growlers, but nearly always buy cans now. But Drunken Rabbit was out of the cans I wanted, so I got a growler instead. That was just a couple of years ago.

Probably in my 20s, if I'm being honest. Judging by this thread, I need to start asking if it's an option. Kinda feel like Pippin in Fellowship
