Love reading this- Appreciate you posting the stats, @Todd! A big Cheers to everyone that makes this community awesome
10+ years ago I used to post a lot! I stopped posting almost entirely for almost a decade. In 2013-2016 I felt like I was swimming against the current and just complaining on here about the state of beer. Everyone in here was excited about special releases, sours, membership clubs, Hazy's and a constant barrage of barrel aged beer releases. I'm not really and never have been into that stuff. I do like the occasional barrel stout or sour, but they are special occasion beers. I started homebrewing mostly in the last 10 years, Pizza Port cans + my local Enegren were my main breweries and that was it for a while. Lately though there have been a bunch more breweries embrace the 6x16oz format for $13 idea. The hype around rarity is gone. (i saw Black Tuesday on the shelf at Total Wine a couple months ago) There's still a long way to go with variety on the shelves, and even though the industry is struggling financially, I kinda like where craft beer is headed. The topics on here seem to have moved back towards regular beer releases and the trendy hype chasing seems to have largely moved on, so I've back on here posting and reading the forums again! Cheers!
If you become a trader, you would surely get offers for those and others in exchange for New Glarus offerings.
You’re in Pennsylvania? If you’re close to Buffalo NY side, get ready for a road trip to Mortalis Avon’s anniversary party / BA release. Line forms once they close the night before. Bring share beers. Massive line share, maybe one of the last around. WBAYN IRL!
I didn't say I want to try them. I am DEFINITELY not an IPA person, so they're both hard passes from me. I'm also not a beer chaser, in the sense some people on here seem to be. So while I'd love to encourage people to drink New Glarus beers, I will also be encouraging them to do so as tourists to my home state.
It has always been fun to actually meet the personalities behind the avatars when I have had the chance (which I have quite a few times over the years). Not every meetup went much beyond beer, but some have, and all were fun experiences. I'd also say that in almost every case, the person's "real" personality pretty much matched their online one. It could be that many people open to meeting a stranger from the internet are pretty open, overall. Either way, hope you get to meet some of the rest of us sooner or later. Cheers!
What I love about the discussions I have seen, read, and the few I have been a part of is how much I have learned. That alone is priceless to me...
I’ve heard from many bars and breweries that Untappd is not cheap… I’d very much prefer an updated business website to an Untappd page any day.
I considered joining Untappd after my second backup site RateBeer (a previously great for European beers and discussion at least before they sold to InBev). By the time I looked, they added all beverages, so now you can rate Starbucks, Pepsi or Tab Cola. Decided not to have a backup website. Still hope Untappd does well, because without them and their parent company that also owns BA, not sure how long we would be able to post and read here. That said, it would be sad to debate which style to classify the latest Mountain Dew release on Beer Advocate. Hope we can keep this site going forever! https://untappd.com/b/pepsico-pepsi/6467967 https://untappd.com/b/the-coca-cola-company-tab-cola/6473338
I wish BA had stayed on Discord (I know there were reasons it left). I jumped into BA's Discord at the start, BA left the platform, but I stayed on Discord - mostly gaming servers, it's been pretty much my only social network for the last couple years.
Yeah, didn't make sense to manage two platforms. Engagement was also very low, enshitification was very high (and even worse now), and there was literally no benefit for BA.
