    ...I'm not a survivalist or prepper, but to me it makes good sense to have alternative sources of heat and ways to cook, though the primary reason for us is the ambiance of a live hardwood fire...Mrs. BeerGoot and I both grew up with wood burning fireplaces in our homes...we added a fireplace to our place and the big question was: wood or gas?...gas fireplaces aren't bad, but to me, that still relies on utilities that may or may not be around when needed (my old joke was we can always chop up our hardwood floors if worse comes to worse)...personally, I actually would have gotten a wood burning stove for efficiency, but that was a no-go...and, we're not Denver, but it is likely a matter of time before Colorado Springs forbids wood burning fireplaces for new homes, so we're glad we have ours (have had it for about 12 or 15 years now)...

    ...yeah, we love our fireplace...it's also time for us to schedule a chimney sweep to inspect the flue and fire box...and as you may know, I do like using our fireplace as a backdrop for beer pix during the cold season...
