Have a good Saturday. My wife got up early to feed the kittens, and I ended up going to sleep after that. Was hoping to go out for Mexican today but I slept too long. Woke up around 8 to @GreenBayBA text saying his son wanted to play chess, so we are doing a Correspondence game on chess.com. I started The Devil's Chessboard by David Talbot, which is an investigative journalism piece about Allen Dulles and his connection with the **** regime and other coverps. really enjoyable, reads like a spy thriller. 4.25/5

Not sure what to eat yet, might heat up some leftovers, or make some chicken patties.

State of Brewing Shuteye Peak Pale Ale from Aldi. APA for under $14 a 12 pack. Run of the mill Chinook and Fuggles tasting pale, it's as resinous as an IPA, but very enjoyable.

No pic cuz here are 2 of my first snake of the season. You can zoom a bit but it is a cell phone and they take absolutely crappy pics, and I do not care how much you spent on the phone.

AI tells me it is a Bull Snake not a Rattlesnake. I concur. First pic is after I walked around it and went back for a pic. Second was when I got close and my IEM cable fell out of jacket pocket, dangling and startled him. Needless to say he was prepared.

Times have changed, as you know, in the NCAA. We did some pretty good recruiting back then, and we were at least competitive nationally in small spurts, but our pursuit of being a "national" liberal arts college came with higher admission standards. We still beat DU occasionally...

I don't mind the trade-off as I've never been a fan of what D1 does to higher education, and our students are qualitatively better here than 20 years ago. We used to admit something like 45% and now we're in the 15-16% range.

And it's a weird combo here, Russ, where D1 is men's hockey and women's soccer, and then everything else is DIII, so there's a strange split in the student-athlete population.
