1) Mortalis Ares Nelson (8.0% no canning date): A NEIPA from NY with Citra, Mosaic, Nelson for flavors of orange, tropical grape, blueberries, melon, and mango
versus
2) Mortalis OldManBearMa Nelson (8.0% canned 3/2/26): A NEIPA from NY with Citra, Simcoe, Nelson for flavors of melon, pineapple, lime. (Mismatched the two blind)

Happy Sunday BeerAdvocates. A Mortalis IPA battle both featuring some Citra and Nelson. First is Ares Nelson.
Next is OldManBearMa Nelson. My first try at this. Tropical aromas. Lots of sweet orange, pineapple, tropical melon and berries. The flavors meld a bit. The mouthfeel is sweet and shows the alcohol a bit. Not quite the flavors or mouthfeel of Ares Nelson.
Winner: Mortalis Ares Nelson

 

@ATL6245 Yeah for sure. Kellerbiers are one of my favorite and highest rated lagers. Looks like I'll be picking up more 1516s.

 

I had them both and lean towards the Ares as well.

Sounds like great beer, though, agreed, I expect strong malt and not much hops in a Barley Wine.

Up next, another Steel Bender, courtesy @snaotheus , is Red Iron Double Red IPA. It's got Columbus, Cascade, Comet, and Trident in the boil, dry-hopped with Cascade, Citra, and Comet, and has solid malt base that is not sweet. Good brewski!

 

@mickyge Same. OldManBearma was good, but leaned sweeter and hotter. Not quite as creamy. I thought Ares Nelson was absolutely amazing when fresh.

 

I was going to open a BA Stout I bought yesterday but decided that sticking with IPAs is more manageable. I have to be responsible while supervising a tempestuous Boston Terrier. She finally realized that I'm down in The Elbow Room and is now confronting me.
