Thanks. It wasn’t a problem for 40 years so I suspect it has something to do with a worn/old part. Way beyond my pay grade to fix so I better get a plumber.

Quick tests you can do

Test A — Run hot water at a nearby sink
If the vibration happens when you open the sink’s hot tap, it’s definitely the plumbing.

Test B — Try “Warm” instead of “Hot”

If warm is quieter, the hot valve is the trigger.
Test C — Turn the washer’s hot shutoff valve fully off, then fully on. Sometimes the valve is half‑open and causing turbulence.

Test D — Listen at the water heater

If the noise is strongest there, the vibration is traveling through the hot line.

Fixes (in order of easiest)

- Secure the hot water line

A plumber can add:

• Pipe clamps
• Foam sleeves
• Anti‑vibration brackets

This is the most common fix.

Install or replace a water hammer arrestor
These are small shock absorbers for plumbing.
They often go:
• Behind the washer
• Near the water heater

Flush the water heater
If sediment is causing pulsing, a flush helps.

Replace the washer’s hot shutoff valve
If it’s old or partially blocked, it can vibrate under flow.
