Chilled glass bottle bought at super U in Saint Martin, poured into a double old-fashioned glass

Thin white foam layer quickly fades to a foam island . numerous bubbles , well carbonated, in a golden yellow brown liquid

    Faint aroma of malts

    Taste is beer, flavored water

Thin watering , mouth feel, fizzy

Hey, it’s cold and wet but other than that, it’s a pass for me as a repeat beer. If you’re in the French foreign Legion, and in the Sahara desert, this could be a lifesaver. But as a beer to savor it is not.

the sunrises are much much better than this Biere

Clear, dark brown pour and glass appearance; very active carbonation; thick head, densely spongy with a rounded, sculpted cap, long-lasting. Gentle chocolate and cocoa powder scent; roasted grain; mild earthy herbal undertone. Seemingly simple yet ultimately more complex taste; diluted milk chocolate and cocoa powder; delicately sweet grain char; subtle underlying bitterness; suggestion of vanilla. Medium-light body; smooth and silky; delicate stickiness offset with a char dryness.

This nuanced beer can be deceptive at first. My thoughts were a somewhat weak flavor and mouthfeel marks this beer, but subsequent sips delivered a more complex and rich beer. This is a sly one!

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Sippers and commentators. And thank you, @Beersnake, for providing a great intro on Friday night! I had been a regular on New Beer Sunday since 2015. I had no problem with the expansion to cover the entire weekend because it gave more BAs the opportunity to participate. That said, and while I occasionally review a new beer on a Saturday, I still look forward to Sunday afternoons to enjoy a couple of quiet hours on this thread. I checked NBW week #1 in 2020. I was down the shore and enjoyed about 5 new beers from South Jersey breweries. My Sunday afternoon review was Carton Brewing's Wedge Issue, a DIPA hopped with Motueka and Waimea. At that time a "southern hemisphere" IPA was novel. Today, I've sort of grown sick of them.

One style of which I never tire is a BA American Imperial Stout. My new one today is Marcescent, brewed by Esker/Hart Artisan Ales in High Bridge, NJ. It is a blend of fresh and bourbon/rye whiskey barrel Stouts conditioned on maple syrup, vanilla beans, and pecans. When first poured it was a bit boozy but it mellowed in the glass.

Poured at 61.3°. It is nearly ink black. The medium-mocha-colored head dissipated quickly leaving a ring and clouds at the top of the glass. Its smell is vibrant with notes of maple syrup, cocoa, vanilla, toffee, and nuts. The taste follows but the rye whiskey and bourbon are far more noticeable and add a touch of sourness that balances the maple syrup. The roasted pecans are also more evident in the flavor. The mouth feel is viscous and oily with low carbonation, and the 13.1% ABV is warming. Overall, Marcescent is a well-crafted Imperial Stout. Due to the booziness - both in flavor and ABV - it is a sipper ideal for dessert.

Pale yet clear gold pour, darker gold in the glass; minimal carbonation yet a dense, thick, white head, long-lasting; fat, lasting rings and dense webs of foam cling to the glass. Dank and spicy herbal nose; weedy; a bit of fennel and thyme. Mild malt backbone well-balanced hop bitterness blended with a peppery hop flavor; maybe a touch of oats. Medium body; soft and velvety with a slight touch of gritty, dry bite to the palate.

A collaboration gone good! Yes, this west coast India pale ale strikes me as a wonderful example of the west coast style.

I'm currently enjoying this NEIPA and gave it a favorable review, NBW. Always a fan of the WC leaning Hazy IPA

Broken Broccolis is a decent NEIPA that runs through a nice progression of hop flavors including: chardonnay, white grape, mango, and some hidden pine that surfaces in places. It looks appealing throughout the drinking experience from pour to finish with fluffy lasting foam to heavy lacing as it goes down the glass. Scents foreshadow flavor well. It has an overall soft feel with an excellent dryness leading to some bitterness in the finish. This is one of those NEIPAs with some WC sensibility. Overall a winner and feather in the cap of OH and New Trail collaborations of which there have been a few

Well I was hoping to have time to sneak in another new one this weekend but then the busyness of life nipped that hope in the butt.

Hopefully I can acquire said beer next weekend sometime and share in a weeks time.

Have a great week everyone and thanks again for the notable opening to get this milestone weekend started @Beersnake. Looking forward to whoever’s opener is next weekend.

...thanks, Russ...I will still throttle back a bit: no bourbon auxiliary vices for a bit...I did cancel my pFriem Artisan Club membership, too, which should make Mrs. BeerGoot happy that not so many boxes of beer keep showing up at the door...sucks for me as I really love pFriem beers, especially some of the Local 541 offerings, but things show up at Coaltrain and Tavour, so it's not like a total loss :sunglasses:...

New Province Brewing 10th Anniversary Bourbon Barrel Aged ( Bulliet Barrels ) Strong Scottish Ale, 10.0% ABV; 3.93 overall

Pours an effervescent Auburn/Chestnut with one finger of fast falling tan head. Minimal head retention & lacing

S: Plenty of barrel, figs, brown sugar. Barrel fades once warmer, more brown sugar

T: Brown Sugar, a bit of toastyness, figs, dark cherries, Bourbon & leafy hops at the edges. Some banana laffy taffy that seems butter suited to a Weizenbock. so, some deduction, also brown sugar, figs & Bourbon, oakyness & vanilla as this beer warms up. Finishes with some Bourbon edge, vanilla, brown sugar & faint leafy hops

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, some booze bite/warming. Nice slickness once warmed up

Wanted to love this. Anyone attempting this as a style around here, barrel aged no less has my love & respect. Time aged in the barrel not stated, that makes me wonder if a little more would've helped the cause. Nose needed to be more. I will still pick up another 4 pack if I see it, maybe 2

Liked cause of a good review...but I will never understand how anybody can get any of this out of a Nitro pour though. Its probably more my fault...or as Gregg Allman says Its "My Cross to Bear" ha, I guess I'll just never get anything on Nitro ha.

My first reaction is that this really wouldn't work as a blonde ale, but that really never stops me from trying. I found this to be very good. Smells very close to a rice crispy and has a full-bodied mouthfeel to go with it's lightly sweet touch to the tongue. Another great surprise from FB...

The following descriptors can describe this beer: rich, full flavored, dank, vegetal, thiccc, green, dense, gentle, bitter, etc...

This is one of the better NEIPA/NEDIPAs I've had in some time as it checks all boxes and switches through all gears for me. Hop flavor is intricate and packed with tropicals and citrus. Pleasurably it is difficult to nail down one hop note as the amalgamation is greater than the whole. The depth of flavor and body is way above average making this an outstanding collaboration between TG and Tired Hands. Reminds of some of Tired Hands best offerings

Late start for me for New Beer Sunday #1104. This brewery is right near my house. Their packaged before the taproom was ok, but the beer I tried for my two visits were not good, so I haven’t returned. They are closing by the end of June, so giving them one more chance.

Taste: Same as the aroma, cherry life savers. 3.25

    Mouthfeel:
Light carbonation, drinks lighter than the ABV. Sweet, faintly tart and sour. Cherry all the way. 3.5

Overall: Not my favorite style, but this is an OK offering. Cherry pop if you are seeking it. 3.25

Done here, but may return if in a pinch for a New Beer Weekend review.
