Yeah, yeah, yeah, ALL holidays are made up, but with Allagash Saison Day this past Saturday and Zwanze Day this coming Saturday, I'm wondering what you all think about these "events"? I, personally, love them. Not that I need a reason or excuse to drink beer, but Orval Day and the upcoming Duvel Day (06/06/26) are pretty cool. For instance, this Saturday gave me an excuse to seek out Allagash Saison. Even though I didn't find it (truthfully I didn't try THAT hard), I did end up drinking their Tripel and Curieux, along with a Westmalle Tripel and a St. Feuillien Grand Cru, the latter two being beers that I haven't had for, in my estimation, WAY too long. Fun things are fun. How do you all feel about them?
I wish that National Beer Day (April 7th) celebrating the repeal of beer was a more popular holiday. Cheers!
I don’t pay attention to the beer holidays. If I read about them here I will drink the beer if I have one. More often I don’t as I drink down my “cellar”. I have less than two cases left. Very rare I will search a beer out for one of these days. Enjoy
Maybe we need to petition the government to make these Federal Holidays? They've got nothing better to do.
First it's my anniversary and now Saison day? Christ how am I supposed to remember these important dates? I'm just one guy. Also, no joke, wife asked if knew what day was coming at the end of the month. My answer was not Zwanze day. Um? No? Was not the correct reply. Oops.
Does "__fill in the blank__ Release Day" count? When I was brewery hopping in Columbus a couple of years ago, I stopped in at Zaftig on what happened to be their annual Ol' Rugger release day. (Winner!) I still miss standing in line for an hour for two bottles of BCBS on Black Friday. I love Zwanze Day, although I couldn't manage to fit it in this year. For me, it's as much about the atmosphere as anything else. As far as "beer holidays," though, I don't pay much attention to them.
Though I never did it on the regular, I have fond memories of some epic line-shares from back in the day.
I’ve heard of, but never attended, Dark Lord Day. I have attended, in no particular order - No Rules Day, Buckley Day, Junie Day (those last two are the namesake dogs birthdays/adoption days at Transient) Arvon has an anniversary day but I’ve never quite made it. Roll out the Barrel day at Bell’s is an annual tradition for me as is All Stouts Day there. All that comes to mind at the moment. I’m sure there are others that I have forgotten about. I’m far more particular in the events that I go to these days, except for Bell’s and Founders they all seem to think that need to sell for as much as possible and that is almost always above my expectations.
Makes you want to copyright the calendar, if that were possible, and sell the rights to the days of the brewer's choice for those days. There'd be huge money in it from the florist industry too!
Yes they are. And since we are taking flowers, one year my sister sent my wife a hop rhizome as a birthday present. I wonder if my wife knows that she sent he a flower plant. Some pics of the hop plant: The flowers have yet to form into cones in the above photo. Cheers!
