With the Stone news, pulled out a can of Double Bastard from the 2024 re-release from the cellar. Only have a 6 pack left now.

Tall boy Thirsty Thursday? Why yes, i will have an English Barleywine please! This is from one of my 3 favorite lager houses (Zillicoah) in the greater Asheville area, and it is pretty solid. Tons of dark fruit in this one, not overly complex, hopped with EKG making it balanced but style appropriate sweet. Nicely done. Rated 4.17.
    Cheers!

Gravedigger Billy from Revolution. Scotch ale aged in bourbon barrels. 13.5% ABV. Fantastic stuff. Might actually be one of my favorites from Revolution.

And another fringe barleywine. Picture if you Will from Bottle Logic. A strong ale brewed with pumpkin and spices and then aged in bourbon barrels. 13% ABV. Really smooth beer.

This is a special beer for sure. There's somehow loads of both originality and inspiration in the overall drinking experience of it. Incredible.
Lakefront 2025 Black Friday Brandy Barrel Black Wheatwine
Schell's Cave-Aged Dark Lager, Wookey Jack, Guinness FES, Baltic Porters...as comparisons but with brandy barrel action. The snifter was def the way to go.

Revolution Peach Brandy Barrel D.B.V.S.O.J English Barleywine, 15.8% ABV. Pours very dark brownish black, with a 2+ finger light-brown head that left no lacing. Aroma is peach, rum, bourbon, toffee, oak, and faint chocolate. Taste is peach, rum, bourbon, and toffee, slightly sweet, slightly bitter, no alcohol burn. Excellent thick mouthfeel, short of chewy, overall world-class. The name should be Peach T.B.V.S.O.J. since it's aged in bourbon, rum, and peach brandy barrels. While this is outstanding, it's somewhat less than regular VSOJ.

Great spring day, spent some time removing things from our relatively unused 29-year-old covered deck, which will become a 4-season porch over the next couple of months. This is the project my wife has wanted since we built, and we're finally doing it.

Yes! So excited for mine to get here! The world needs more peach barleywine.

Halftime beverage has it for pre order if anyone is interested.

Yeah, just got mine too. While it's really good, not a real strong peach taste. The barrelling makes this beer.

Yeah I figured with everything thing else going on and no actual peaches involved that there wouldn't be a ton of peach. But this sounds like a great mix and your worst day with a revolution barleywine is still a good day.

Hopefully I can hang onto a can until peach season to do some experimenting...

I've had 11 of their BA beers, and the lowest I've rated one is 4.4. Haven't had a bad one yet.

I struggled a bit when deciding where to post this. I landed on this thread. I'm drinking 3x B.A.R.T. from FiftyFifty. This is a blend of barrel aged stout, barleywine, and Belgian tripel. 14.5% ABV. After tasting it, I decided that the barleywine component was the most dominant, so here it is. This one is really boozy. The bourbon just takes over the beer. Strange, as I've had beers at this ABV that don't taste like straight bourbon. The stout component seems almost absent. I'm getting plums, toffee, bourbon, honey, and light brown sugar. Enjoyable.

I had no expectations really, and was blown away by the performance of this beer. Some of the highest numbers I've ever rated a beer. But what really put the cherry on top was using the 20 oz snifter. That Duvel glass gets some miles put on it fueled by Imp Stouts. If anyone can get their hands onto that 2025, do not hesitate. I'll be writing my review this morning. This release is gorgeous in every way and is warming in the chest.:beers:

Rev crushed this BA Scotch Ale. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: their barrel program is the equal of any brewery on the planet. This is stupendous.

This is indeed stellar and Revolution's barrel program is my favorite regardless of price. The fact that they are priced so well makes stocking up a no-brainer!

Anabasis from Side Project. This is Blend #6. American barleywine aged in Blantons barrels for 19 months and Willett Family Estate Rye barrels for 26 months. 14% ABV. Fantastic stuff.

The taste fantastic. Boozy. Vanilla, ginger, burnt toffee, pine, plums, bourbon, rye spice, slight smoke, molasses, maple, and brown sugar. 4.75/5

Three Gravedigger posts on this page - a testament to Revolution's program. Other than Backwoods from Founder's, this has to be the best Scotch ale out there.

Couldn't agree more. I haven't had Backwoods in a while - I need to correct that, stat.
