Nice west coast style beer. Good flavor. Slight bitterness. Tasty.

    On tap at the brewery.

Clear looking beer and it has a dark golden color to it, almost amber. There's a slightly off white head to the beer.
The aroma has a nice touch of the hops to it. I am getting pine and earthy aromas to them.
The flavors are from the hops. The flavor starts out earthy. The flavor turns toward pine on the backside. There's a nice bitterness to the finish. Slight floral hints show up in the mix.
The body does have some clingy feeling to it. It may be a hint light in the body, but just a touch. Slight bitterness feeling.
This is a delicious beer. Very well made overall.

Might be done from the road. Will know in a bit.

Good Saturday afternoon, New Beer Weekenders. And thank you, @Whyteboar, for hosting this weekend. I have a love-hate relationship with "southern hemisphere" IPAs. In our area, every brewery is making them and introducing new variants of New Zealand hops. Honestly, I'm burnt out on this substyle and I keep telling myself not to drink any more of them. Then, I'll have one that I really like. Today, I'm reviewing one I really, really like: Colossus from Autodidact Beer. It is hopped with Eggershops 2026 Late Harvest Nelson and Motueka Hop Kief. I had a pour on draught at the brewery yesterday (release day) and am reviewing it from the can. It's a masterpiece! If I could describe it in one word it would be "soft." The mouth feel is amazing. I posted previously that it is so thick and viscous that a VW would float on it.

It pours a murky, dirty tangerine color with almost 2 fingers of fluffy, bright white foam and very thick lacing. A big, fruity nose with lemon, lime, white wine, pineapple, and vanilla cream. The flavors are big and bold. The grist is sweet and provides a big, pillowy base. The fruit presence is well-balanced between tart lemon and lime zest, on the one hand, and sweet pineapple and melon, on the other. The Nelson hops contribute notes of Pinot Gris but in a soft, subtle way. The tastes blend wonderfully. There is just a hint of hop bitterness and no burn at the finish. The mouth feel is amazingly thick and plush. The carbonation level is moderate and it certainly doesn't drink like 10.1% ABV.

I added Colossus to the BA database but I'm not the first to review it. @SadMachine rated it 4.84. I'm not sure I've ever rated any beer that high but everyone has his/her own strike zone. This is an amazing TIPA. I love everything about it except perhaps its caloric level.

This was added incorrectly as it is brewed by New Trail in Williamsport PA with OH as a collaborator. That said, it is an interesting NEDIPA. Considering the main attraction is an experimental NZ hop, expected flavors take a strong turn. Papaya and grape must are the main players with some weed and dankness following along. There are some WCIPA properties, namely a dry and somewhat bitter finish. This is not the usual creamy, oat, and lactose ridden assemblage. It is thinner than expected as well but consequently drinks fairly quickly. Having had many New Trail IPAs, this has the familiar house yeast note which is similar to unsweetened graham cracker. It seems to be missing the all important bite that an excepetional IPA delivers, yet I feel this is quite good with room to grow on me. Worth a try and different than the usual Double Haze. Much less juicy and more WC is an easy synopsis here.

    Whiling away the afternoon…

Chocolate Almond Imperial Stout - Frequentem

Bought this on a lark, not expecting much. However, it is quite tasty, aromatic, and sultry. Hence the attached music.

No real head, just a thin ring of fine bubbles that populate falling constellations of lace with each sip. No clinging viscosity. Roasted dark chocolate and espresso beans work well with mildly sweet marzipan. Flavor delivers on the aroma, adding spiced rum and almond paste. Sweetness is well controlled and there is a light touch of bitterness. The finish is late and modest. Dense, syrupy body and texture of soft rubber. Light alcohol warmth is on par with expectations of 10.5% abv. Tingling of carbonation never seems to let go. Definitely a liquid pasty, yet hardly as sweet as many tend to be.

I'm a big Parish fan, this was a good example of why. Multiple barrels, the bourbon and vanilla stood out, but there was some Tequila and maple in there too. A little boozy, but not too bad for 13%. Smooth, sweet, and chocolaty. Cheers Craig!

Anabasis from Side Project. This is Blend #6. American barleywine aged in Blantons barrels for 19 months and Willett Family Estate Rye barrels for 26 months. 14% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice thick brown with almost zero head. The nose is insane. Loads of bourbon, rye, toffee, figs, slight hoppy note, brown sugar, and vanilla.

The taste fantastic. Boozy. Vanilla, ginger, burnt toffee, pine, plums, bourbon, rye spice, slight smoke, molasses, maple, and brown sugar.

The mouthfeel is nice and thick. Boozy bourbon and vanilla on the aftertaste. Overall, really happy I got to try this. I kind of wish it came in smaller bottles though.

Three weeks in the can , this triple pours like whole milk with a crazy Nestle Quick addition, lazy gluggs into the glass opaque yellow with black hole properties: no light may enter or exit. Insane crazy aroma represents the Big Personality hop mix that is cloaking that 10%! Wow! White grape, passion fruit balanced with some scrumptious bitter, fruit salad medley. Taste follows nose with grapefruit, tropical Mike n Ike’s , crazy lime, apricot, pear. Old school Now N Laters, always the balance of justice bends toward amazing sweet/ scintillating / bitter. Feel is thick, chewy, soft, balanced. This is the best triple I ever had, and one of the best ipas ever. My wife’s buddy teacher gifted me. He is now a treasured friend!

Good early evening. We got back from a few days in Ogunquit, ME. It's been an annual April action trip with our grandson for a few years now. Mandatory stop at When Pigs Fly in Kittery where I had Russian River Temptation on tap - excellent wild ale! It was different this year than any time we've gone to Ogunquit - the town seemed essentially deserted. The hotel was nearly empty, no playing dodge 'em with pedestrians. Mostly local people in the shops and restaurants. Zero tourist vibe - fine with me but not so good for the businesses.

Trip highlights were walking the Marginal Way at low tide and following the beaches versus staying on the path. Different perspective entirely. Plenty of eider ducks to watch and treasures to find. We visited Footbridge Beach - very cold on the ocean side of the dunes. Didn't stop the young 'un from dipping toes into the water. Saw piping plover on the dunes. Visited the Albatross in Portsmouth, NH - an experimental submarine and a great take for anyone even marginally interested in Navy things.

And there was the little tour of Barreled Souls - Chloe was an awesome host and I learned quite a bit about what they do beyond thd basic brewing process. Thanks to @Beersnake for the inspiration. Good haul of future NBW victims!

Picked tonight's volunteer up at Tully's in Wells. The store was in bad shape - not much stock of anything, left alone beer. Owner says they are struggling - hope they hang in and survive.

From a tiny brewery in Amherst, ME called Airline Brewing Company this is English Pub Ale, 4.2% ABV. Here it's an English Bitter.

It's a beautiful pour. Crystal clear, burnished coppery color with a creamy off white head the falls to about an 1/8 inch cap with some spotty thicker islands. Nice sheets of lacing on the glass. It's gorgeous. .

The smell is of bready malts, slight toffee sweetness and maybe some honey. Black tea, light peppery spice, nuttiness. Faint fruitiness - maybe pear. Just a bit of hoppy floral aroma and herbaceousness.

Enjoying this flavor profile. There's bready and biscuity malt, slightly sweet and leaning more to caramel and honey than toffee. Very present and pleasant black tea - you could add a bit of bergamot and call it Earl Grey. There's the vague fruit - could be apple, could be pear. Very mild hint of citrus. Black pepper, floral and herbal hops, moderately earthy. Very mild bitterness at the finish.

Feel is moderately drying, a little creamy textured. The peppery note lingers along with the citrus and hop notes.

This is a very nice beer. I'm liking the flavors a lot - that tea taste is very pleasing. This is a beer you can enjoy a few rounds sitting at the bar with friends, which is exactly the intent. Right around the 4.2 mark.

Sounds like a great getaway @LeRose your grandson is a lucky dude.

Just finished off our last slice of “when pigs fly” sourdough. Mom brought me back some from Maine once and found a local store that stocks in once in a while.

Hope to see you all with a beer tomorrow, didn’t have a chance to get out today but tomorrow represents new opportunity :beers:

LEO lager / Product of Thailand

11.2oz bottle stamped FILL LOBYOL EXP LOBYOM poured into a straight sided tavern glass at fridge temp 5% ABV. The beer pours bright light golden amber with off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Minimal lacing. The aroma is mild with sweet grain and faint fruit with a touch of vegetable oil. The taste is semisweet pale malt with a corny twist. Noticeable diacetyl. Mild bitterness. The feel is thin bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, lower tier AAL.

Sierra Nevada Premium Pils ( Czech Style ), 4.7% ABV; 3.96 overall

Pours a slightly chill hazed straw/gold color with one thumb of pearl colored head. Nice head retention & lacing

S: Bready, grassy with perfumy hops

T: Grassy, some lemons, crackery notes & dryness up front. Soapy hops surface as this beer warms up, breadyness, lemons & floral notes once warmer. Finishes a bit dry with grassy bitterness & slight melon & bready sweetness

MF: Medium body, soft carbonation, pretty good balance

Easy to drink, flavors & nose don't pop enough for greatness, expected more. Of all the beers these guys could put in half pint cans...

Hey there, New Beer people. Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. High five to our host @Whyteboar for opening the bar with a concise and welcoming intro.

My first New Beer of the weekend is from one of Portland's newest breweries.

    Tiny Giants Floral Sacrifice
Rice lager dry-hopped with Alora, Lorién, rose hips, violets, and calendula

The body is a pale straw yellow color veiled with a thin haze. The bright white head is frothy and short-lived but deposits good lacing on the glass. The nose is very much dominated by rose hips. It also includes light, crackery malt, sweet hay, a touch of raspberry, and a trace of sulfur. The flavor, on the other hand, opens strongly with violets on a base of moderately sweet malt. A spicy floral bitterness comes through in the middle as the violets subside, along with a bit of the raspberry character foreshadowed in the nose. The finish is sweet malt and rose hips, with subtle notes of honeydew and lemon peel. Light-bodied with ample carbonation. Finishes a little soft; more crispness and bite would be most welcome.

I enjoy beers with floral and herbal additives, but I prefer them with a bit more finesse. As a first draft, Floral Sacrifice is a good start. I'd like it more if Tiny Giants dialed back the sweetness and the flower profile a couple notches.

@jonphisher Last night I opened a Ferment Woodsman Porter which had been in my beer crisper a bit longer than I'd intended (canned on 09/17/25).

I am happy to report it was still in great shape. Plenty of spruce up front, and maybe a touch drier, with less dark chocolate and more roast malt.
