Welcome, welcome, welcome, to the greatest time of the week here on BA...a time to gather, reflect on whatever you want, nerd out and discuss a beer you’re having. The only catch...it's gotta be new to you...or a beer you haven't had in a while (aka..might as well be new), or a long time favorite that deserves a review from...YOU, yes we want to hear what YOU have to say about it.

If you're new or just happened upon this thread, thanks for reading this far but please read along and then proceed to join the fun. As you drink said beer outlined above, tell us about it, your likes, dislikes, etc. ALL reviews are welcome, short/long/proper/improper; just tell us what you're experiencing, that is a review. Whatever you're tasting is what is there, and as real as what anyone else claims to taste or not taste. Pictures are encouraged but not required, if you need help with that just ask, someone will help before you know it, you won't find a jolliest bunch of beer loving nerds on this side of the nuthouse.

    On to the weekend...

It is prom weekend for the high school at which I teach and as such, I have a question for anyone reading: I’m desperate, and I know it's last minute but…”will you go to prom, I mean, have a new beer with me?” Shall I write it on a cake? Post some goofy picture? Yell through your window at night? Hire the band to help me ask? Or shall I just hope that none of you would let me go to prom, I mean, have a new beer alone?? I promise I'll be a fun date and we'll make memories that will last a lifetime, what do you say?

Please don't let me go alone...you'll love this years theme...A Weekend of New Beers.

Now let’s get this weekend started everyone...my beer is from my favorite NJ brewery, a “style” I can get on board with if done right, all the glory of bitter clean WCIPA hops in a more drinkable package. We’ll see if this one fits in the “done right” category, on paper it certainly does: 4.5%, all pilsner malt, hopped with chinook, citra, simcoe, and mosaic. It is a collaboration for the craft brewers conference done with New Trail and Neshaminy Creek, two pretty well established breweries.

Tonewood - Convergence (West Coast Pilsner 4.5%)

Pours light straw in color, cloudy; looks like a zwicklebier; white head with surprisingly decent retention.

Very bright and zippy nose; raspberry like with lemon zest and some grapefruit; fresh malt character; straw and light toast.

Taste mostly follows suit, to me malt is pleasantly intertwined throughout; little pine, some toast, little earthy dank, berry-citrus, grass and straw on the finish; perhaps some apricot in aftertaste.

Body is light; a tad soft, smooth carbonation, good hop stickiness that persists; bitterness is moderate and pairs well with how this beer is made, finishes remarkably clean and dry when considering aforementioned softness; all traits lead to a highly drinkable and refreshing beer that begs for another sip.

This beer is a winner; the four pack gamble was worth it for sure. It is well constructed across the board, nitpicking; I always want more bitter, more pine, and more bite; that being said this beer hits many desirable notes for me and like I stated in feel, everything sort of works as is. Put this beer in the new beer win column.

    @Bouleboubier

    ——————

I look forward to seeing what everyone else is drinking, and hopefully a new face or two, or three join us for our weekly hang.

Bring on A Weekend of New Beers

    A Weihenstephaner 1516 inspired beer

Today’s new beer is from Sly Fox which has an interesting name:

    “Don't Go In the Keller

    Pilsner - American

    • 5.3% ABV • N/A IBU •

Brewed in collaboration with the local Pink Boots Society chapter, this unfiltered kellerbier was inspired by the classic Weihenstephaner 1516, and then “Americanized” with the addition of the 9th annual Pink Boots hop blend. Light bready, toasted malt flavor is balanced by a floral hop profile, with notes of stone fruit and papaya.”

For folks unfamiliar with the Pink Boots Society:

“The Pink Boots Society (PBS) is an international nonprofit organization founded in 2007 by Teri Fahrendorf to support, inspire, and encourage women and non-binary individuals in the fermented and alcoholic beverage industry. It provides educational opportunities, scholarships, and professional development to help members advance their careers, boasting over 2,000 members globally.”

This year’s blend has an interesting mix of hops:

    The 9th Annual Blend includes:
    • Centennial
    • Mosaic®
    • Ekuanot®
    • HBC 638
And below is hop sensory graphic for this blend courtesy of Yakima Chief Hops. It sure looks like an intriguing and tasty hop blend.

Served in a Sly Fox Bockfest & Goat Race glass at the Pottstown taproom:

    Appearance:

Straw yellow with a BIG fluffy white head.

    Aroma:

Wow! An enticing combination of herbal, fruity, citrus, etc. hop aromas accompanied by softly bready malt aroma.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with herbal, fruity, citrus, etc. hop flavors and soft bready malt flavor. There is a notable bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with a dry finish.

    Overall:

I really enjoyed drinking this beer, it is very good – excellent!

    Cheers!

Here we are, NBW folks. Another weekend. I happened to look back at very old posts thanks to WBAYDN, and found that my apparent first New Beer Sunday post was in 2014. And now, almost 12 years later, I am getting to try a beer I have wasn't sure I'd get to try for even quite a while more. But this top 5 BA beer from the Beers of Fame list that I teased a couple weeks ago fell into my clutches.

Now, we got to try some Cantillon at Monk's Cafe on a trip there many years ago. I did not review it, because I was just enjoying it. So this will be my first reviewed Cantillon beer, Fou' Foune.
I will be sharing it with our neighbors, one of whom likes fruited sours, but the modern day kind - not sure how she'll take to a wild aged sour. And, as is obvious because I am posting in this thread, I don't know enough about the beer to have a guess (and I m avoiding looking at other reviews for this go).

Anyhow, onto the review (which might be a bit piecemeal as I interact with our guests)...

Poured as of the time they were scheduled to come so I can get in a quick look - actually kind of peach colored. Maybe a tad bruised. An orange-heavy amber, let’s go with. A little bit of head, but a solid collar of white - which isn’t bad for spurs in general, per my experience.

My neighbor jumped right in and mentioned pineapple (and that it was interesting). I do get the typical wild-aged funk in the nose, but also quite fruity. I get both peach and the pineapple my neighbor mentioned in the nose, with the sour notes being a rich fruit vinegar and some lime.

On the palate, there is a gentle but obvious carbonation. The sour bite brings as much feel initially. The ending is a bit more raw and dirty dry.

All of us agree that the peach isn’t dead obvious in this beer. I think the sour mix of lemon, lime, and white grapefruit interfere a bit. The peach hits middle-taste to me (the neighbor is still getting pineapple but also peach), along with the funkiness that I think leads to that bit of dirty dryness mentioned in the feel. I think there are vague recollections to Orval in that specific note.

Everyone likes this here. I think it is very well put together and mixes the sour and fruit so well. It isn’t overly peachy… and least not mid-summer peach from the southeast. I am very glad I got to buy it and bring it home to share.

    Big edit:
ROFL - I just realized that, in talking with the neighbors that I mistook that the fruit used in this is apricot, not peach. I had mixed up my knowledge in the conversing and we all just went with it. When I noted the correct fruit... everyone went, "That makes more sense." It also gets into how psychosomatic taste can be... we wanted to find peach but we were all like, "sorta?" -- but found it.

    Cheers, all!

Fort George + Georgetown - Vorcille, a WC IPA collaboration that probably in some way is related to mixing the ideas behind the two breweries flagship WC IPAs, Vortex and Lucille respectively.

16oz can served in a curvy Monhegan pint glass. Can is dated 04/07/26. Bought it last weekend at Chuck's Seward.
Pours mostly clear pale gold with a fairly large fairly dense head, lots of active carbonation. Smell is dank, dense old wet pine needles. Lemon, whiff of lime.

Taste is similar, dives more deeply into earthy bitterness, almost a bark character, but it's definitely pine bark. Dankness seemed more subdued at first, but after a couple sips I've changed my mind. More resin bitterness than I expected from the nose, also citrus fruit is a not as assertive.

Mouthfeel is very dry, medium bodied. Overall, very nice, very solid WC IPA.

Thanks to @jonphisher for kicking off NBW!

Jefferson Beer Supply Banana Split Imperial Pastry Stout, 10.5% ABV. Pours thick and 'gloppy' with a muddy brown head of chocolate that left puree residue. Aroma is chocolate, banana, vanilla, and lactose. Taste is primarily strong chocolate, plus banana, quite sweet, slightly bitter, strawberry in the aftertaste. Thick and creamy mouthfeel, leaving sticky lips. Overall excellent.

First week of construction on our project to turn our seldom-used covered deck into a four-season porch. My wife said she wanted a lot of window. They had to replace four rotted deck/roof supports first. We've wanted to do this since we built in 1997.

Thanks again to @jonphisher for hosting this weekend! I'm kicking off my new beers with Year 6 Anniversary Ale from Lumberbeard in Spokane. This is a blend of one year, two year, three year, and four year old barleywine aged in Willett bourbon barrels. 15.2% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a thick murky brown with minimal head. The nose is amazing. Toffee, bourbon for days, prunes, raisin, and some brown sugar. The heavy bourbon definitely dominates here.

The taste is also wonderful. Nicely balanced. Toffee, bourbon, vanilla, raisins, prunes, boozy, brown sugar, a bit of honey, and molasses. Lovely. The flavors are super intense. This is so damn enjoyable.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a bourbon and toffee aftertaste.

    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

I sat out last weekend, I just wasn't feeling any beer reviews. Well, today I am back, and here's my first new beer in this virtual bar.
In The Pines - Klockow Brewing - Grand Rapids, MN - American Pale Ale - 5.9%

I'm totally digging the flavor here. Nice malty flavor. Nice backside bitterness. There's juniper berries in it. The only knock is there's very little aroma.

From a 16oz can. No date on the can.

This beer has a nice amber color to it, and it is pretty clear looking. There's a nice steady stream of carbonation bubbles that are rising in the glass to the top. There's a 2 1/2 finger off white head. The head is fluffy looking and long lasting. There's some good looking lacing on the glass.
The aroma is pretty light, but I do get some grain/malt notes on it. There's a faint scent of hops, very faint.
The flavor has the juniper berry flavor up front. This flavor does fade a bit and then goes full on rye bread flavor. The finish goes to the hops and has a nice bitterness with it.
The body has a nice clingy feeling to it. It is sticky feeling. The body feels full. There's a nice feeling from the bitterness on the finish.
This is a tasty beer overall. A very tasty beer. The only downside is the faint aroma.

This will likely be my only new beer tonight. I'll be back tomorrow with more new beers. Cheers.

Next up is Members Only #10 from Barreled Souls in Maine. This is an imperial stout with vanilla beans, aged in Willett Bourbon for 13.5 months. 13.9% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a super thick black with a little bit of brown head. The nose is splendid. Loads of vanilla, bourbon, graham cracker, caramel, brown sugar, malts, gingerbread cookies, and some vanilla ice cream.

The taste is fantastic. Vanilla, marshmallow, bourbon, cinnamon, gingerbread, cake batter, maple, milk chocolate, and molasses. Lovely.

The mouthfeel is medium to thick bodied, with a sweet maple candy aftertaste.

Lindeman's Kriek Indulgent Cherry Lambic, 3.5% ABV; 4.04 overall

Pours an effervescent ruby/Burgundy with 2 fingers of purple/pink head. Lovely head retention, better head retention

S: Cherries, sweet mostly, some tart

T: Sweet cherries lead the way, a little dryness, just a little black currant as well up front, dryness too. Some leafy hops as this beer warms up, plenty of mostly sweet cherry, a little tartness. Finishes a bit acidic & tart but mostly sweet with pronounced dryness

MF: Light /medium body with lively carbonation, somewhat sticky on the teeth with a little acidity

Very easy to drink, this works well as a pre-dinner or dessert beer to me

From a 473ml can packaged on 20 09 2025. poured into a pilsner glass. A three finger fine tan head on a hazy dark copper. Excellent head retention. Lots of rocky lacing.

Smells of dark bread with lighter notes of nuts and coffee. The taste follows the nose. As it warms toffee and a little bit of chocolate. Finishes dry with mildly bitter hops.

Smooth and well balanced. Medium body and good carbonation. Overall an excellent Munich Dunkel. Well made and true to the style. Well worth a try.

Extra Cherry from Fantôme in Belgium. 7.5% ABV. A sour ale brewed with cherries.

Poured at fridge temp. The bottle is about 4 years old. Pours a nice murky orange with a solid amount of white head. The nose is sour cherries, funk, lemon, and leather.

The taste is really interesting. It tastes a bit old. Orange, lemon, pepper, funk, vanilla, slight sourness, a bit hoppy, and a bit of baby diaper. It's lacking in sweetness, which would have balanced this out a bit. The pepper is coming through more as it warms.

T: Biscuitty malt, dryness, pine & a little caramel up front. More of the same as this warms up, some toffee & a little citrus too. Finishes dry with caramel sweetness, biscuitty malt & pine

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, nice balance of sweetness & woody bitterness

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice murky orange/red with an inch or two of head. The nose is malt, citrus, caramel, bread, and a bit of spice.

The taste is great. Orange, wheat, cinnamon, caramel, ginger, clove, bread, and a bit of pepper. Seems light for a quad, in my opinion.

The mouthfeel is fairly light. Overall, this seems too light for a quad. Still quite tasty.
