Prairie Cheeky Tiki Sour Ale with Oranges , Pineapple, Lime, & Coconut Rum Flavor, 5.1% ABV; 3.49 overall

Pours a slightly hazed gold with one thumb of rapidly disappearing ivory colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: Citrus, coconut & pineapple, very tropical indeed

T: Pretty dry, follows the nose, lime dominates up front but plenty of other tropical fruits & a little orange as well. Lime, coconuts, & pineapple as this beer warms up. Finishes limey tart, dry with countering coconut & pineapple sweetness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, fruit juice acidity. Sticky on the teeth

This was alright, but very much a one & done, lack of adequate carbonation didn't help

Alright the time has come to announce the finalists for prom king…don’t mean to offend but I believe all our options this year would indeed identify as king.

@cjgiant he has been around the block, we all love him; the keeper of knowledge in all things NBW/S.

@snaotheus he’s spent more money on this collective group of nerds than any of us, ask and you shall receive.

@JackHorzempa the academic all american always educating the masses.

@GreenBayBA aka Scandinavian cheesehead for his crazy antics and debauchery; life of the party.

The Canadian Outlaws, a unique tandem vote for making us all jealous of the beers to the north. Outlaws for shipping beer cross border and avoiding customs. @Coronaeus @scott451

@LeRose who serenades the masses with his vocal talents.

@beergoot for his poetic way to perfectly describe beers in such few words, you’re an inspiration.

@Beersnake, aka Mr Worldwide, beer traveler, smuggler, most importantly, beer lover.

@ChicagoJ aka statman; keeps the count going each week like clockwork; keeper of time in all things NBW/S.

Coach @sulldaddy for joining each week despite coaching more games than can fit in a day.

    ——————

A word if I may, as I sip on a Troegs Sunshine Pils, which sadly qualifies as the polar opposite of new…

I had to stop eventually, that’s the only reason the list isn’t longer than it is

Please feel free to add more nominations and most importantly…

    DONT FORGET TO VOTE

Goose Island BCBS Two-Year Barleywine Reserve English Barleywine, 17% ABV. It pours out of the bottle medium-brown, but in the glass in appears extremely dark brown, with a ring of light-brown bubbles that left no lacing. Aroma is toffee/caramel, dark fruit, and bourbon. Taste follows, plus oak, slightly sweet slightly bitter, with moderate bourbon burn. Mouthfeel is thick and dry, overall excellent.

@Beersnake here we go! I somehow never had a Bourbon County Barleywine before. I was a bit hesitant to try this one because I've never liked any bourbon with "old" in the name, and once again that holds true with Old Fitzgerald. IMHO this pales in comparison to GI King Henry II and Revolution VSOJ. We'll see what happens as it warms. I still tried to score it fairly.

    Green state extra Mexican lager
...an incredibly clear light gold /amber appearance with a lasting head
...medium carbonation with about a medium body
...aroma is yeast, grain, cereal, toasted grainy bread and a mild bitter earthiness
...taste has a very subdued sweetness that shows up first with grain, toasted bread and cereal. Has a hop bitterness i dont expect from this style that builds and takes over the aftertaste
...overall a very well done beer and although more bitter than expected it adds to the overall pleasing taste[IMG]

Q.O.R.I.S. the Quasher from Hoppin' Frog. 15.7% ABV Quad imperial stout. Small can!

Poured at cellar temp. Pours a thick black with a good amount of brown head. The nose is intense! Dark chocolate, charred wood, roasted malts, dark coffee, charcoal, and maybe a hint of dark fruit.

The taste is insane. Super intense, but not overly bitter like some of the classic imperial stouts. This has a nice smoothness to it. Dark chocolate and coffee are huge. Tobacco, burnt wood, a hint of burnt toffee, light vanilla, hoppy, roasty, and a slight brown sugar sweetness.

This is just a fantastic beer. Mouthfeel is thick with a lingering note of tobacco, dark chocolate, and charred wood.

Nothing sad about that, we should celebrate drinking favorites!

I just got done drinking a favorite while watching the Flyers vs. 'Canes game, a homebrewed CAP beer! :yum:

And the Flyers took the 'Canes to overtime for a second time in this series. Hopefully a better outcome this time around.

    Cheers to favorites!! :beers:

A new to me beer from a new to me country - Latvia. Arpus Brewing Co.’s “Barrel Aged Sour Cherry Imperial Stout”:

On tap, the beer, pours black with ruby red sea through body; dark tan creamy head with some rocks; excellent Retention; heavy ring; heavy minus lace; thin legs on swirl; from the can not so much lace. The nose is all about the cherries. Sour cherries, and chocolate upfront; bourbon on back end. Creamy mouth feel; medium body; not add junkie; light carbonation; very little warmth from 12% ABV. Overall outstanding; sour cherry shine along base and barrel; beer reminds me of stouts from Pöjhala.

    4.5/4.25/4.5/4.25/4.25
    Score: 4.37 rDev +0.9%

I enjoyed this beer on tap at the beer bar (Sergio’s) and bought a can to enjoy and write up this evening. An excellent BA cherry imperial stout.

New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Super Charged Juicy ( Imperial ) IPA, 11.0% ABV; 3.51 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

S: A riot of tropical fruit/kid's fruit punch, fades down the stretch

T: Oranges, passion fruit, coconut, peach juice, dryness & a little lime, plus dryness up front. Oranges, peaches, passionfruit, coconut, limes & dryness as this beer warms up. Finishes sweet with coconut, pineapple, some lime, a little booze bite & dryness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, skews sweet. Some booze burn & lack of carbonation the last 7 ounces or so

ABV is well hidden, flavors don't really complement each other but compete. Sadly, sum of the parts aint all that. Decent drinkability. I have had worse from them recently

Other half all fuggle everything extra special bitter
    ...cloudy dark amber caramel appearance
....below average carbonation with a medium body that has a slight heavy thickness
...aroma is hard to explain but the bitterness comes out in the forefront. Pine tar, citrus peel and earthy mint leaves
...taste is actually dry, bitter but not hop/ipa type of bitterness. A sort of lip smacking sour bitterness that lingers
...I think I lack the skill to adequately describe this one but it is really well done. Its just not a chug down after mowing the lawn type of beer [IMG]

re-joining the thread and apparently Im up for the king of the thread or something!?!?! Wow thanks @jonphisher ! Had a game today and the girls prevailed in rainy cold conditions, 3 - 0.

Might as well go big again and this is Barreled Souls Death Star 4 , their annual star wars release strong ale blend. This one is 15.4% and was aged in Parkers Heritage Wheat Heavy Char barrels.

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 375 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled on 4/23/2024. Been in my cellar for about a year after pick up at the brewery .
the beer pours a dark mahogany with garnet highlights only a little light passes through this surprisingly dark beer. A dense khaki colored head foams up about 1cm , but fades quickly to a surface covering and some scattered lattice when I swirl or take a sip from the glass.
Aroma is malt forward with some toffee and a bit of pipe tobacco and also a big hit of charred wood and some fusol booziness. No hint of hop character on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and not much stickiness. There is very minimal, fine carbonation that gently rolls across my palate. Drinks easier than I expected on the physical traits. There is some warming booze on the finish and swallow, which also dries out quite a bit.
Flavor is similar with some toffee brown sugar sweetness up front, which rolls to some dark fruit with plums and raisins and then finishes with some black coffee (!) , charred wood and peppery bitey booze. Never any hops showing up anywhere on this beer. Another winner from Barreled Souls. Would gladly drink this again.
    4.25 in the BA DB

Hello again friends! Tonight I have one that I have had before, but it was at SAN so I didn’t rate it.
Perrin brewing is famous, and rightly so, for No Rules - a massive ba imperial porter.
They do other stuff as well, a full lineup of styles. Including my favorite, the barrel aged stout.
Perrin Reserve is actually aged in brandy barrels with golden raisins. One would expect those flavors to be upfront and dominant. Yet they are not.
The pour is breakfast coffee brown and looks stout black in the glass. The manilla colored head reaches up about 6 cm and leaves very little lacing. About par for a BA stout.
The taste is not as sweet as the listed additives suggest it should be; and the raisins add a dimension more than a specific flavor. It tastes very good.
The feel is lightly viscous, triple mash and caramelized lactose are bound to have some body as a result.
OA - this is better than I expected, not sweet and the listed fruit is not a primary flavor.

Curious how New Holland can make a triple mash imperial stout and age it a little while in bourbon barrels and it’s 18% ABV. Perrin has a triple mash and it’s less than 13%. And Perrin has added sugars.
Flies in the face of what I thought I knew about beer. Still (obviously) have much to learn!
    Cheers all!
