Rubbery? That could be from the yeast. I assume there are a couple of things that can cause it but, leaving it on the yeast too long can cause a rubbery flavor
I finally had Calumet Queen yesterday. I’m not huge of the style, but it would be a great summer beer and has a nice flavor profile. It is worth seeking. The BA scores do not do it justice.
I will also say this. I am fairly sure that I had it before. Back then, I didn’t appreciate the style and would have easily dismissed it (Even though it was probably $6.99 for a bomber). I hope it sticks around after this year.
Same boat I was in. Around 2014/2015 when I got into beer I didnt care for most classic styles. I didnt like Jinx Proof. Rarely drank Calumet Queen. Gorch Fock grew on me big time over the years. Now I love any time those beers make a return
Assuming this isn't on anyone's tick-list since they've been on tap since Friday, but Bitter Pops has Dark Lord 2025 and Sundae Thunderstorm 2023 along with some regular FFF stuff (ZD, Gorch Fock, etc.). Thunderstorm came across as mostly a coffee stout with a hint of vanilla for me, but still pretty fun to see in the wild (BP say it's the first time that beer has been tapped outside Munster)., Also, the FFF burger is delicious (if also hard on your gut).
Im not even kidding I almost made a post yesterday about what the May beer release would be and I was gonna say Drunk Monk under the old name and thats exactly what the F we just got. Hell yea
I’m kinda excited about Drunk Monk. I don’t think I had that one back in day and I love hefs. I don’t think they’ve done to go sales in prior years at DLD other than DL packs, but please correct me if wrong. I’d like to buy some of these brewery only bottles at DLD if possible. I’m certain it’ll be on draft though so at least I can try it.
They did have other beers to-go at DLD prior to 2015 or so. But not since then. I think their event license limits what they can sell. Usually you need to plan to hit the kiosk the day before if you want to pick up anything else. If it makes you feel any better, I am pretty sure Legendary Shader is the exact same beer with a different (TTB approved) name, and that sees distribution.
Had dig deep in the brain, but do remember buying a case or two of ZD at the fest back in the day. Good to know on Legendary Shader, thanks!
I’m in agreement, however, did they change any part of the recipe from Drunk Monk to Legendary Shader? Or am I thinking of the one that replaced Brian Boru? Given the image is the Legendary Shader background with Drunk Monk on it vs the iconic old label of a drunk monk the contents have to be legendary shader Do they open the kiosk on Sunday after DLD for the out of towners? I feel like they do though it is traditionally closed on Sundays.
I haven’t gone in recent years, but back before brewpub closed they used to open it up on Sunday. Definitely would be nice to know if kiosk is open Sunday this year. Also, it’s kinda nice they avoided Mother’s Day weekend this year. Kinda sucked rushing back home the next day DLD level hungover.
Kiosk IS open Sunday 12-4 per the paper that comes with the wristbands. Sucks they don't have the pub and you can't nurse the hangover with a little hair of the DL and some curds like you used to, but yeah at least the kiosk is open. The tour can be done on Sunday too, which includes a pour, but think it requires a reservation.
Anyone know what they were charging for a bottle of 2026 Dark Lord this year? They sold out of them I know.
