One of the attributes of Rate Beer I liked is the fact when you wrote beer reviews, you could attribute a public place (if it already existed in places) to your beer rating, and Rate Beer would list the “Mayor” of the brewery or place (if a beer bar or off premise retailer). This would likely require substantial changes here, which I am not necessarily advocating for.

However, a change which might be simple or at least relatively simple is to add a “mayor” for each brewery to the poster(s) with the most reviewed beers for said brewery. It would be interesting to see which Advocate (or Top 3) have the most experience with the brewery. Perhaps click their name as listed mayor to see all the beers they reviewed and get a better feel from BAs most familiar with the brewery as to their impressions and attributes they like, and whether they align with your preferences. Could also add vice mayor slots for those who added the most beers or photos to the database.

Perhaps this would encourage more folks to enter and review (think reviews more so than ticks/rate scores only) ratings and beers. There might be some friendly competition over some of the top mayoral spots. Also encourage those who perhaps live in smaller areas without many nearby BAs, or less frequented breweries.

Thought about it while adding my backlog ratings, and wondering if I now (or soon) would have the most ratings for a smaller but favorite brewery in Chicago (Spiteful).

@GreenBayBA would be a strong candidate for Central Waters mayor. Probably 3 Sheeps too, and others.

That’s an interesting concept, so basically the site appoints the “Norm or Cliff etc” as the official mayor for the Cheers bar? Perhaps mayor would be most overall beer reviews and vice mayor would be most reviews over the last 12 months? That way if the mayor stops going to that brewery for a few years or really drops off, there is still a go to person (vice mayor) on recent developments and beer insights about that brewery. Just ideas tossing around. Overall it’s a pretty cool concept for multiple reasons.

Hey, I could be Mayor of Trappistes Rochefort! Or would that be Maire de Trappistes Rochefort? Either way, I humbly accept. (I assume there's free beer involved.)

lol…Mr Iowa, I don’t know if buying Monk beer from the store counts as the Mayor of the Monestary in Belgium.

Yeah, but it sounds classier than Mayor of SingleSpeed.

Sorry to nitpick a bit but a Belgian mayor is a Bourgmestre. Maire is way too French, you don’t want to start some tensions between us don’t you?

Would the mayor of the most breweries in a town become the mayor of the town? The county? The state?

I’m not sure I understood the need or the va:je this would provide.
Just because someone has tried the most beer does it mean they’re the best judge of the quality of the beers

Hope not. That would probably make me mayor of Drekker, though I haven't bought many of their beers since I gave up Sours and IPAs.

Who said anything about being the best judge?

    The OP even indicated this:
I think the idea is that, based on reviews, who might be the BA ambassador for a brewery? You can take or leave the information, but it is something that some might find useful - especially if you recognize the user and can see what they liked and didn't like from the brewery.

Sure, it all has its limits, especially with newer breweries or breweries with a limited number of beers/reviews. But, if it wasn't too hard to show the BAs (maybe poobahs only?) who could perhaps supply an experienced opinion on a brewery or their beers, it could be useful to some.

I mean, the site shows pDevs on beers - which is just a statistic, and how many people use that information? If some people do, great! Glad it is useful to them.

No apologies necessary. If you need me to settle any international disputes, I'll be holed up in a monastery somewhere exercising my official duties over Trappist ale. Santé! :beers:

But what about someone who sits down and does nothing but flights at a brewery. I know that is discouraged, but those numbers rack up. Are all reviews created equal?

    I recall this feature.

It would require the creation of...
    • a new database table
    • a cron script to that stores each unique user + their rating count per brewery, based on probably a weekly interval
    • code to support this at the display level
Necessary? No. Useful? Sure, to some. Fun? Yes.

I'll add it to my never-ending list of ideas.
