If you add those you change the terminology. You would become alderman of the brewery, mayor of the town, County Commissioner, and then governor. Sounds like fiscal mismanagement and with the new titles comes liability so you can be sued for the brewery closing under your watch.
I approve of this! Also, I don’t really do reviews...but based on my drinking of their beers, number of visits to the brewery, and beers I've added to the BA database...I proclaim myself as the mayor of Rhinegeist Brewery... I was there for their opening weekend when they barely had 6 or so beers on tap...their 1st batch of Truth almost wasn't even ready to be kegged yet...but they got it done!
I just randomly was looking at a brewery and saw that they had a number of beers with only one rating (or review, I didn't check). As this is a novelty of sorts, I don't want to overthink it. But I will. I wonder if "the mayor" should have reviewed (I assume this is based on reviews, not ratings, as the OP indicated it could "encourage reviews") the brewery's core beers. I could go long, but the short of it would be to weight a review of a beer with X other reviews more than beers under (or with one review). I wouldn't want to discount the breadth, but I wouldn't want a BA who has reviewed the 6 special releases at an anniversary party more than the reviewer who has reviewed the brewery's 6 core beers that missed the festival. More of "thought experiment" post than an actual request, really. I am guessing "the mayor" will have a good mix of both.
And what happens when you move away? Pretty sure I might beer the "mayor" of a brewery in a city I haven't lived in for 3 years. And even then, there were folks that were far more regular at the bar than I was.
Cool idea! I've often wondered who has reviewed the most beers from XX brewery. I could see this encouraging people to become the "mayor" of their local brewery.
Yeah - I really like the idea, but also realize it is a somewhat kitschy idea that has its nuanced flaws, but if the BA community can take it as a "fun, but pretty meaningless thing" versus a "true honor" - we can roll with it. As to your first point - just because you move away doesn't mean your experience is meaningless. After a couple years, perhaps... Maybe the mayor needs to review a beer every year or so to hold title - lol. I can already feel the burden being put on the code(r) that I really am trying to avoid suggesting. Trying to get myself back to my point - fun but pretty meaningless... ohm
I'd love to stroll into the place and announce that I am the rightful mayor of this here brewery, and y'all better clear a space and change the TV channel. Those are my garden gnome statues over there. Show some goddamn respect.
