Heading here with my wife and son in mid-May. Staying in Myrtle Beach 4 nights, Sunday to Wednesday, at the Dunes Village Resort. Driving to Charleston Thursday morning and leaving Sunday morning. Staying near James Island County Park in Charleston. We'll have our car, so willing to drive for good beer and food. Our normal vacation routine is breakfast at the resort/Airbnb, kids attractions in the morning and afternoon, and family-friendly craft beer spots for lunch and dinner. So looking for recommendations for the latter in Myrtle Beach and Charleston. Any suggestions from local BAs, or those with experience in the two areas, would be much appreciated. Cheers!
I'm near Savannah but my wife and I spent an anniversary in Charleston about two years ago. Didn't visit any breweries that served food but you did state you are willing to drive. I'd recommend Westbrook brewery in Mt. Pleasant for great World Class craft beer. If BBQ is something you crave Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ has been featured on many BBQ shows. Don't know anything about your kids but I'd also suggest a tour of the Yorktown Air Craft Carrier at Patriots Point. Enjoy your visit in the South.
Haven't been to Charleston in a couple years, but I've been there quite a few times. Charles Town Fermentory, Edmand's Oast and Westbrook were my top places. I believe only Edmond's has food and it was good. Westbrook is one of my favorite breweries, they do a lot of styles well. The Griffin has the most reasonably priced food in all of Charleston s well as a decent beer selection. Acme Lowcountry Kitchen in Isle of Palms has the Boss's vote as serving the best seafood dinner she's ever had. I wouldn't go that far, but it's one of the best I've ever had. Queen Street Grocery is a great little place for lunch. They also have a small but good selection of bottles to go. I think they also have a few taps.
Thanks guys. This gives me a lot to work with in the Charleston area. Google Maps says Westbrook is only 25 minutes from our Airbnb, so not too bad. We'll definitely make the trek. Your food recommendations sound right up our alley - thanks for those. I've tried a bunch of Edmund's Oast beers before (Leather Jacket being a highlight) but have never been to the brewery. Looking forward to visiting.
Hobcaw Brewing right near Westbrook is extremely kid friendly and good vibes, the beer prob won't blow you away. If you're going to Mount Pleasant you might as well make your way to Sullivans Island for Poes for good food and beer list, and a Gamechanger at Home Team is a must! Munkle is probably objectively the best brewery in the area, they specialize in Belgian beer and lagers. If you are a sour or stout guy Westbrook is certainly your jam.
Did a quick Google search and these all look and sound like great spots. Highly appreciated. I can see why you recommended Hobcaw - the homepage suggests they straight up cater to families. Poe's and Munkle will also be on the hit list. Thanks again.

Sorry I missed this thread, my college friends and I used to hit Myrtle all the time. Atlas would have been my recommendation; Liberty Tap House is pretty good too. The only brewery I'd been to in MB was New South and I recall not being impressed so I'm glad you missed them. What did you think of the Grand Strand Brewing beers?
My overall impression of Grand Strand was good. The Rip Tide was one of the standout WCIPAs of the trip. The Dry Stout was a very competent take on the style. The Dirty Myrtle was a bit sweet for a WC DIPA, but still flavorful and enjoyable. The ESB was average, but there was nothing technically wrong with it. We also liked the snacks at this place. I would certainly recommend a visit for anyone staying in or passing through town.
