Another of my thoughts after my recent trip to NOLA.

I've long been in favor of a forum for trip reports, much like this aviation site has: https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

It would be great to get info on not just the beers/bars/breweries, but the non-beer stuff that we did as well. Even a work trip could be covered. Some things that could be touched on:

Travel (fly, train, drive? hints for the airport, rest breaks on the drive, etc).
Lodging (hotel, motel, hostel, camping, and feedback on how things went)
    Beer stuff (duh).
Ancillary stuff (Museums, concerts/venues, hikes, cycling/kayaking/etc stuff, shopping [where applicable], etc).

All this and more could be included in a Trip Reports forum.

I voted "Yes." I enjoy reading trip reports and living vicariously through those accounts of places and breweries I'll probably never have the chance to visit. I'd contribute as long as I'm able.

I also voted "You're a wanker" because I figured the OP would be disappointed if I didn't. I mean, why else would he have included that as an option?:wink::sunglasses:

This is the general outline that I'm going to use when I write up the Portland/Seattle trip I'm about to take this weekend. Obviously it's the reason I posted this poll.

    That would be pretty rad.

    Cool.

    Too fuckin' right, mate!

And, of course, formal place review links could be included in Trip Reports.

Got maybe a cpl beercations coming up when I go to a cabin near Massanutten late July:
    1. Was gonna do a Luray Loop Sunday and hit Pen Druid, then come back down east/south and hit Shotwell Run and Bald Top
    2. Seriously considering hitting Winchester VA Friday as they appear to be a decent town that has 3-5 breweries that open at noon or a bit after on a Friday
And I'm going to hit Brewhaha in Elkton as I've never been. Elkton Brewing will probably be a frequent stomping ground as well.

I voted yes, and I would contribute by reporting on my future trips. I'd be most interested if the places visited are mostly breweries. I'm not so sure that reading what beers and food were consumed at restaurants would be as striking to read, but maybe that's because all my trips involve brewery destinations.

That's what Place Reviews are for. A Trip Report would, in my view, be more encompassing of the whole thing, rather than just the beery parts.

I said yes because I was born and raised in New Orleans and find it curious what people do when they visit.

Agreed. I guess you'd have to read through all the bits about the beer bars, restaurants, and stores to get to the breweries, but, at least in my for instance, they are always there.

If you like, I could expound upon the following, but the Cliffs Notes are: Bought a bunch of local beer at Total Wine in Metairie, drove to Dauphin Island on I-10 stopping at Buc-ee's in Robertsdale Alabama, did some stuff in Dauphin/Mobile, drove back stopping at Abita Brewpub and Brewery on the way to the Bienville House, stopped at The Tree of Life, ate at Felix's on Bourbon, ate at Court of Two Sisters, ate at Commander's Palace, had drinks at Hot Tin. Like I said, there was a bunch of other stuff in between, but that's the gist.

Okay, a write-up with a brief comment(s) about the places along with a link to the reviews works for me regardless of the place type being a brewery, bar or eatery. I can click on the links that interest me.

The big question would be if all contributors will write a review of each place.

These were my thoughts exactly. General report of the trip with BA links to reviews of all the beer-y parts including breweries, beer bars, stores, and individual beer reviews.

Some people drive around for an hour looking for a place to park, then wind up behind a gate inside a construction zone when they follow the Google Maps navigation directions. Then once they extricate themselves, they go to Wing Stop for Cajun chicken on their way back to Motel6.
    Or so I would imagine...

Enjoyed it tremendously. It's been on my list for a while. Wife and I had dinner in the atrium overlooking the patio. It was pretty cool being walked through the first and second floors of the restaurant. I didn't mention it, but we also had drinks at the Hermes Bar next to Antoine's. Cool place with a lot of history, as many places have in NOLA. Got the bartender talking because we were his first patrons of the day. It was a good time. FWIW, we're planning on going back for NYE and having dinner there. Not sure I mentioned this, but we got married in NOLA on Bourbon. Had a balcony, 2nd Line, the whole thing. Very memorable.

Yeh, those places are institutions. Always a great meal and service. I was a sous chef at Commander's for some years. Sounds like you were in the garden room that overlooks the courtyard. That room is a favorite. That's awesome, new orleans weddings are the best.
