Anyone have any intel on Maui Coconut Porter? I haven't been able to find it anywhere in Pdx the last few months. I've heard it's a distro issue with Columbia buying Point Blank. I know it's contract brewed out Sleeping Giant in Colorado for PNW distro, but now I'm wondering if it's a production issue. Hopefully it makes its way back to shelves soon!
Weird. I'm used to seeing Maui beer around most everywhere, but mostly in grocery stores. However, the Maui beerfinder doesn't show it anywhere in town, and even Belmont Station presently only has the POG and the seltzer. In the interim, have you tried Caldera's version? It's not identical to the Maui, but maybe until the distribution problems can be sorted out, it might do? I did a more widespread beerfinder search, and it doesn't appear as if the beer is currently available in Oregon. Other Maui beers are available in Salem, Medford and Eugene (for example), but not the coconut porter. So maybe it's been discontinued in Oregon? Can't imagine why, but that's what I would surmise at this point.
Is this the beer you're asking about? If you need some, there were at least 2 sixpacks in the cooler this afternoon at the New Seasons in Tanasbourne Town Center this afternoon.
Ya the rest of Maui’s catalog has normal distribution. There’s just something going on with Coconut Porter. I’m not sure if it’s the only beer that Maui contracts out to Sleeping Giant, but it’s definitely the only Maui beer experiencing distribution disruption in Pdx.
