A highlight of this event for my wife and I was that the Alex Meixner band performed on the bandstand and we are BIG fans of his music. We have seen him perform before at this event but also at the Bethlehem Musikfest but mostly at Wurstfest in New Braunfels, TX (we have family and friends that live there and we visit them during the Wurstfest season). A good time was had by all. Except for the guy who fell and got dragged across the finish line in that one heat? Prost! @John_M @ATL6245 P.S. A video I found on YouTube with Alex Meixner performing at Wursfest: [/QUOTE] Holy Cow that band gets around! I saw them a few years ago at the Duluth, MN Oktoberfest. Super fun!

Oregon City Pipe Dream Smoked Bock Pint enjoyed on draft at The Beermongers in Portland, OR, while not enjoying the end of today's Inter Miami-Timbers match. Bright, clear copper-red body with a tenacious cap of ivory foam. The semi-sweet nose is laden with toasty malt and a gratifying amount of soft smoke. The flavor is a little more malty sweet than I'd expected from the nose, but it has tempting notes of bread crust, brown sugar, bacon, and umami. It also has more clean smoke than the nose offered. A nice bonus. Finishes with smoke and floral hops. Really nice mouthfeel, heavier than expected with silky texture and crisp carbonation. Very nice beer. Cheers to anyone who ever had a pipe dream...
@steveh, I don't know if buttery is the best description I could have used. This is likely the best Maibock on the market. I perceive buttery goodness, like movie popcorn-level, but maybe I just mean crisp and clean floral flavors. The last Maibock I experience was great, but this Maibock is the best! Thank you, @Nugganooch!
Diacetyl -- or that movie popcorn you mention -- is not a good character in a Maibock (any lager, for that matter). It usually means something went wrong in the fermentation process. And it's definitely not "crisp and clean." That said, some people are hyper-sensitive to the flavor and maybe you're picking up the very slightest of notes most of us couldn't discern. Do you taste butter in a lot of the beers you drink? BTW -- is Enegren available in GB these days, or are you getting it in trade?
Butter, for me, is a positive description, like on Coffee Talk on Saturday Night Live. I used that description for a lot of hazy IPAs that I really enjoyed. I received this Enegren Brewing beer from the very generous and thoughtful @Nugganooch.
So, is it really something you're tasting? Or just a mouthfeel sort of character? Butter (flavor) is not a good trait in an IPA either. And sorry, current SNL references are lost on me.
Have always appreciated your posts, friend, and hope to try Enegren Maibock some day, if for no other reason than that you recommended it. Cheers!
Enegren Maibock is great stuff. I brought some cans home from LA a couple years ago, and I did a blind tasting with Enegren against one of my favorite local maibocks. Enegren turned out to be the better beer. https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...drinking-now-2023.670646/page-55#post-7746575 They also make a terrific smoked bock called The Big Meat.
Having a Mardi Gras Maibock from Abita. Toasted bread with some dark fruits but is lacking hop balance and finishes too sweet for the style. Cheers! Tom
