There is a local brewery near me that is closing at the end of May...well sort of. The brewpub/brewery location is closing. Apparently a restaurant is going to open, and the restaurant will serve their beer. You can read about it in the link. So somebody is obviously going to be contract brewing their beers. I don't know when that is going to happen, opening TBD in the future, as far as I know. https://www.chron.com/food/article/houston-platypus-brewing-restaurant-closing-22232044.php Questions and options: 1: Do I submit a place closed update for their current location? Then once we know what brewery is contracting, then we can add the "new" beers there? 2: Do I submit a change for the place types. Just have it be a brewery, and remove the eatery/bar/etc types? I'm assuming to go with option 1, and I'm over thinking this But maybe there is something I'm missing? Thanks.
Hi! Soooo... My understanding is that once the transformation takes place, the old brewery entity should be closed. I'm pretty sure you can do this without moderator assistance, but if you do need some help, just reach out. It's a fairly simple process l believe. After that, it should be re-added to the data base directory as a restaurant/taphouse. The fact they're going to keep on offering their old beers (under contract from another brewery) is interesting, but shouldn't impact the transformation process. Cheers!
Yeah, thats what I'm planning on doing. After I typed this out and posted it, it seemed more obvious that I should just update it as closed, and whenever the new place opens, its just a new bar/eatery. Also the restaurant/taproom is moving to a new location, which I didn't make clear. So its a completely new thing going on... We can probably close this thread, I think I'm all good on this now ha. Thanks again.
So, same location, same name, still "producing" beers. In this situation, nothing needs to happen other than tagging that beers are brewed elsewhere; the beers will still be under their name, so they need to be listed as such. If we close the location and start a new one, we lose all associated data and the beers won't be listed correctly.
This is what I was thinking of, where would the beers be housed correctly? Though...a big old but... The brewery location is closing, Sunday is the last day. There is no opening date for the new restaurant/taproom, or whatever its going to be, and that is a new location entirely. That might not even open for a year knowing build out and permitting issues that can happen around here. And there is currently nobody contract brewery for now either...with no real indication of when that will start. So, I'm still leaning towards submitting a closed update, and just thinking out loud here. Thanks
Just out of curiosity, if it gets untagged as a brewery, what happens to all the beers previously associated with the place?
Even if a location is removed (closed) the beers survive. See Southampton Public(k) House. The location and brewery are listed as closed but the beer listings remain on the site. (The new location of the Publick House is not a brewery and its beer selection is poor, so is not listed.)
I knew beers from closed breweries stuck around; I was more curious about what happens when an existing brewery with beers gets changed to a different place type. Sounds like they go play hide-and-seek in the database somewhere
