Have a good Tuesday. Slept in to around 4PM when the urology department finally called and got me set up for surgery on June 24th, so I get to live for 3 more weeks with the 8mm stone.

Up now listening to a new book while playing candy crush, I'm on level 5466.
Stolen Focus by Johann Hari: 4.25/5 Incredible psychology book about how social media has created a society of a lot of ADHD. Lack of sleep and lots of caffeine is a big factor, I am guilty of it for a long time. Started from infancy for me really, so it's a disorder. The author theorizes that our dwindling attention spans are not personal failings but a systemic crisis. The book identifies external, societal forces: from technology and the "attention economy" to poor diets and exhaustion that actively sabotage our ability to concentrate. Has a lot of great scientific studies referenced, a few I have heard before from other books like Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker. Interesting reference to the experiments conducted in the 1930s by psychologist B.F. Skinner. Skinner trained animals (like pigeons and rats) to perform repetitive actions by offering them unpredictable rewards. Well researched and easy to listen to, and pretty inspiring self help style book. I found that ashwagandha is what works for me to get ready for sleep, the book even states taking melatonin can be detrimental to sleep quality. The author also documents a digital detox with only him having a dumb phone, and then he said he got addicted to his phone coming back after it. Great insights.

I am sure all will go well. Having to wait three weeks has got to be tough though both mentally and physiologically.

i remember studying B.F. Skinner as part of a psychology course way back in the early 1970’s.

Thanks. The way I look at it, what's another 3 weeks for final relief of something that has been going on for years, and I was false flagging it as lupus flare ups. I will still get those, but at least I will know what's up if I get another one down the road on the extreme pain scale. Going to be put to sleep for the operation, getting a laser shoved up your jimmy is not on my list of life experiences I wanted to have :grimacing:

Finished up that psychology book all in one run. Next up is Oscar Wars: A History of Hollywood in Gold, Sweat, and Tears by Michael Schulman: Was randomly looking for a book on the history of Hollywood and the Oscars and it was a popular and recently published piece. Not a lot of them out there. A long 21 hours/600 pager.

The tabbies are all a bunch of wild ones. Spearmint is always climbing all over me on my computer chair, and likes to be a shoulder cat. He's also yelly, but is docile if you pick him up. A bit of a weirdo.

New Belgium Voodoo Ranger 1985 Mango IPA. Canned 4/8/2026. Great fruit IPA with classic Cascade, Citra, Simcoe, Centennial hops. Very smooth, soft, and well made hazy IPA. Juicy and slightly tart.

End of Normandy vacation and strolling around. Back from a three hours drive earlier this midday. Quick snack and some errands later I’m rewarding myself with Duvel:

    Happy Tuesday BAs

Hope your unpleasant sounding surgical intervention goes quickly and easily Ian @superspak ....does not sound fun!

Man, this recent weather is awesome - cool nights and low 70s and sunny days - I could dig this all summer long! But, alas, the heat and humidity will be here soon enough!

    Cheers!

Glad to learn about Matt Duncan @IMFletcher - don’t recall hearing their music before. Every band should have a horn section! Also, hope all goes well @superspak befire during and after your surgery.

Hopefully to feel better after some lunch and hydration to hit Off Color this afternoon.

    Best Day Kolsch

    Good afternoon beer fiends!
Kicking off my “relieving” 85 degree (after 2 weeks of 90+ temps) Madrid afternoon with a Polish lager. This is simple, no frills, bread flavored with an herbal hint, summer day sipper.
    Perfect for a hot day.

You'll be in & out in a jiffy. <> It's certainly time for a beer because it's LAWN CHOPPIN' TIME! Also if you like Toppling Goliath's hazies get your hands on the new one Psuedo Alien Imp IPA. Tree House - 10th Anniversary King JJJuliusss right now. This tastes more vivid and bright than the og King JJJ that I had last year was, which leaned more overripe mangosteen and toasty malt for me. This 10th Anniversary edition tastes more like regular Julius or JJJ, only a bit heavier and thicker, more smoothie-esque, etc. Real nice cantaloupe honeydew melon flavor with ripe mango, orange juice, grapefruit peel, pineapple, peach, slight candied tropical citrus fruit, a hint of caramelized bready malts, and floral earthy dank resinous pine. Real great stuff per usual from the peeps at Tree House. Cheers all!
