Cinco De Mindblock Maibock ~ PetSkull Brewing Company Manitowoc, WI This thoughtful drop was made courtesy of the Noble Norge @GreenBayBA hinself. A brand new beer and new brewery to me that is making quite an impression! The beer and video pairing alone launches me into next level fan status BA. The beer itself pours a beautiful deep honey amber color with a very slim cap of white suds. The aroma is all nutty toasted malt that totally delivers in the flavor as well. Quite delicious with all that toasty malt goodness. Like butter yes!!! In the sense of a rich Ritz cracker (not like movie popcorn or diacetyl). The house flavor and water profile are somewhat distinct to my tasters. This one has got a bit of fur on it as well at the 7.7% coming with a moderate heft in the mouthfeel. Which is really suiting me just fine BA. Overall maybe a touch less refined than the Enegren Maibock however I am loving everything about this Spring Time offering. Thank you for the opportunity @GreenBayBA Cheers
Occidental Brewing Maibock Portland, OR This is a nice beer but not quite the depth or robustness of the PetSkull beer previously consumed. It does have some crystal clarity in looks and a nice toast blonde malt note. Good drinkability. A bit lighter on its feet overall. There is a touch of sulfur noted in the finish that I am not super fond of but otherwise pretty nice. Priced very well for like $12 a sixer actually. Prost
Had the opportunity to check out some new beers today and took a chance on Goldfinger's Heller Bock. Not sure what's different from their Maibock from a few years ago, but I liked that one well enough. Canned in May 2026. $14 for a 4-pack? Yeah, I splurged for the sake of science. Roaring Table is going to be upset that I passed on their $13 Kolsch, but I was looking for a big malt hit. Rather hazy pour, but nice deep gold color. Vegetal DMS in the nose with peppery alcohol. Flavor is very hot, peppery alcohol with a nice bready malt trying to assert itself, but not succeeding well. Only the first can, so I'll give the others a chance before I review (yes, it has a separate listing from the Maibock). I have high hopes for that breadiness I detect.
Pryes Maibock 6.3% is clean and easy drinking. It reminds me just a wee bit of Abita Andygator with a touch of earthiness.
Riggs Beer Company Maibock Urbana, IL This was sent to me by the fantastic BA @falloutsnow Maibock is a German springtime lager. First off, it should be noted that this is a strong lager. Don’t let its golden color fool you…. this is a 7.5% beer. It has a floral aroma and honey-like malt backbone. A gentle, warming alcohol character is the foundation of this beer. In true German Lager fashion, it has a crisp finish. Celebrate the coming of spring like the Germans…. have a Maibock. Riggs delivers once again here with a fairly complex profile of honeyed cracker malt with floral and herbal hops. somewhat spicy, finishing crisp and smooth. Still maybe not as tightly put together as the Enegren offering but very close. A delicious easy quaff indeed BA
